Merge

[edit]

This article seems to be duplicating (a) the first flying machine article which deals with controversy over early flying machines and (b) the list of early flying machines. Furthermore IMO it is inappropriately named because it deals with early mechanical flight rather than, as one might suppose, pterosaurs, Archaeopteryx and the like. Perhaps it should be merged into the first two named articles. Nurg 06:22, 7 August 2005 (UTC)[reply]

EOY?

[edit]

In the third section of the table, there is a header, "Post E.O.Y. 1903". What does that mean? Freekee 03:08, 7 April 2006 (UTC)[reply]

I don't understand it either so I removed it. Probably written by somebody who wanted to clearly mark the point in time when Wright Brothers flew 260m. As we can understand now, a hundred years later, there where probably others who flew before the Wright's. Their 260m flight was not such a unique event as a lot of people still think. Text after the tables

[edit]

I have added a division into different era's after the tables. Let's see what other editors of this article think of that. (Roger J.) —Preceding unsigned comment added by 87.249.177.39 (talk) 18:22, 23 November 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Forlanini's helicopter

[edit]

Enrico Forlanini's helicopter had a steam engine and was unmanned but in 1877 it rose to a height of 13 meters (40 feet) for 20 seconds. I think it is an important milestone that should be added to this article

Early flying Machines

[edit]

As the subject articles are all about human flight, then I propose that all three articles be merged to form one, titled Early Flying Machines. No need for a list as the exizting tables are fairly comp[rehensive and easily editted in the future. As this has been under discussion (without much response, if any), then i shall attempt the task[and get villified again for not discussing somehting that nobody wants to discuss]Petebutt (talk) 15:49, 6 March 2010 (UTC)[reply]
