Contentious Category
[edit]Hello all,
This may be nothing, but at least for the sake of thoroughness, in this edit I removed this page from it's American white supremacists category, since there don't seem to be any cited statements to that effect, and it looks like the relevant policy states "Do not categorize biographies of living people under such contentious topics as racism, sexism, extremism, and the like, since these have the effect of labeling a person as a racist, sexist, or extremist" (WP:BLPRACIST).
I looked to see when the category was added to see if there was any discussion, and it looks like this page was first added to Category:American fascists here then that was changed shortly thereafter to Category:American white supremacists, here. I'd be a little more cautious or jump to the talk page first, but I saw there had already been multiple warnings and raised concerns to this editor around similar questions
I also noticed that the editor has a high volume of continuing similar edits on similar topics. I may take a look to see if there's anything that would be right to bring up for discussion, especially for living people.
Seems like the addition or removal of this category could be contentious either way, so I thought it'd be responsible to add this talk page topic with my reasoning for transparency / just in case.
Best,
