who is most famous for leading an estimated 200-300,000 textile mill workers in the city of Mumbai (then Bombay) on a year-long strike in 1982

Does he deserve to be called famous (as opposed to infamous or its equivalent) ? Tintin (talk) 13:46, 24 July 2006 (UTC)[reply]

I don't think the positive or negative connotation should come in at all - Samant is "well-known," whether people agreed/disagreed with him. This Fire Burns Always 16:18, 24 July 2006 (UTC)[reply]

At the height of strike Samant was very famous and Bal Thakre's pictures were garlanded with shoes. I remember these as I was witness to those scenes. Thakre was chastised for being a sell-off to mill owners. (Thakre was - and is a sell off to powerful people. Thakre got his share of flesh in terms of real estate and lot of property, while Dr. Samant died a hero's death). —Preceding unsigned comment added by 90.197.28.62 (talk) 20:57, 3 July 2009 (UTC)[reply]
