Paswan are historically a rajput caste, Warrior class
Paswan and Dusadh appear to be synonyms. I am not sure yet which is the more common usage but, one way or the other, the two articles should be merged. Sitush (talk) 19:54, 19 February 2015 (UTC)
- Against: Paswan is the surname used by Hindu Indian people where Dusadh reflects the community also there are no strong evidence which can prove the association of Paswan and Dusand. The line in the article says, Paswan in Bihar are known as the Dusadha where people with the same surname are also living in various other states of India. @Sitush: Do you know anyone with the surname Dusadh ? — CutestPenguinHangout 05:44, 27 July 2015 (UTC)
- I don't know anyone called either of these names. So what? - Sitush (talk) 07:09, 27 July 2015 (UTC)
- You are confused about the community and surname. Note: Paswan is a surname used by Hindu Indian where Dusadh is a community in Bihar. There are no evidences that tells Paswans are Dusadh. Some people in India associated with various parties are trying to associated these two just to politicize. Dusadh says, people living in Bihar of Paswan caste comes under this community where this should not be the reason to merge these two articles since people with Paswan surname are living in other states as well. This should not be ignored that Dusadh is not referenced at all where Paswan article is sourced. — CutestPenguinHangout 08:09, 27 July 2015 (UTC)
- I may well be confused but I'm not seeing any evidence of that, and we work on verifiability here. - Sitush (talk) 00:13, 30 July 2015 (UTC)
- Merge caste discussion on Paswan to Dusadh; consider turning Paswan page into a disambiguation page, linking to Dusadh and Paswan (surname) (which can list those who may or may not associate with that caste). After looking at the above and some of the references, I note:
- The Paswan page statistics seem to match the Dushadh statistics in reference 1 on that page, suggesting that they are being treated synonymously.
- The current contents on the Paswan page describes a community, not a family name.
- There is no doubt that Paswan in a family name, as listed at Indian family names#Bihar
- There are sources linking the names as synonyms, including:
- World library
- Numerous matrimonial sites
- Joshua project
