30 bands
i've heard that duff mckagan RECORDED with over 30 bands before he joined guns'n'roses.
i don't mean i've heard that he had simply been a member of over 30 bands, but had actually RECORDED with over 30 bands.
due to technical difficulties staying logged in, i'm unable to leave a user name as a signature. i plan to leave a user name signature, when the technical difficulties are past.

Discography
I added two albums to the Discography section - The Fartz 'Because This Fuckin' World Still Stinks' and Loaded's new 'Wasted Heart' EP. There will also be a new Loaded album at the end of the year that'll need adding.
Incidentally since several other EP's (for example GNR's Live Like A Suicide) are on the list is it worth adding VR's The Melody and the Tyranny? It's basically an extended single release but it's classed as an EP. Danikat (talk) 12:13, 16 September 2008 (UTC)
Hazel
Is the colour of his eyes really relevant?? Aecis Mr. Mojo risin' 12:43, 15 January 2006 (UTC)
- To me, it's not that important. We could make a trivia section for it though. --Snkcube 21:32, 15 January 2006 (UTC)
- Not really important but it is a frequent subject of debate on forums, so it would be nice to have an 'official' source. A mention in the trivia section should do it. (Maybe also explain that hazels eyes can look a number of diffrent colours under diffrent conditions.) Danikat 12:56, 17 October 2006 (UTC)
Seattle
This article says that Duff moved to California and played with, among others, 'Ten Minute Warning'. But I'm fairly sure these guys are at least based in Seattle; they're also on Sub Pop, and Chrisopher Blue (vocalist) has been in other bands in the Seattle area.
Duff studied for 3+ years in Finance at Seattle University, this should be mentioned somewhere.
Because of that Microsoft offer him a Job, that he rejected to go for Velvet Revolver
LA/Seattle bands
Ten Minute Warning and the Fartz were both Seattle bands. Duff was the second drummer with the Fartz, replacing Lloyd Shattuck (Loud Fart).
Deadrose black 23:51, 7 September 2006 (UTC)
This comment (and the identical ones above) have been on the talk page for ages and no one has disagreed so I've edited the article to include The Fartz and Ten Minute Warning in the list of Duff's Seattle bands rather than the LA listing. I also took out the comment about his having playing in numerous bands around LA because as far as I know Road Crew was the first one he joined after moving. Danikat 20:08, 19 February 2007 (UTC)
What happened to the mention of his time in The Fartz? I saw them play once in San Francisco -- they were a fairly well known hardcore punk band in the early 1980's. 75.41.59.246 (talk) 00:34, 18 December 2010 (UTC)
Name
Can we remove the "Dubh, which means black-haired", bit? Dubh is Irish for the colour black. Nothing to do with hair. Asheron 19:01, 14 September 2006 (UTC)
Actually, it also denotes the colour of a person's hair, besides denoting colour. The Irish word for a black person is'nt dubh, as you might think, but gorm, which translates as blue. Hence, the blues. You're welcome. Fergananim 15:51, 9 February 2007 (UTC)
That's because Fear Dubh means "devil". =P 89.100.77.238 20:26, 16 May 2007 (UTC)
Trivia
I just took out a phrase in the trivia section. It was about Kurt Cobain and when he sat on the plane beside him a week "before he commited suicide or was murdered." I only took this out because the idea that Cobain was "murdered" is only a rumor and has no evidence to back it up whatsoever. So I just reduced to to "before he commited suicide". Skin Crawl 03:09, 22 September 2006 (UTC)
Does the fact that he got sober in 1994 really need to be in the trivia section when its already covered in the Solo Years section? Danikat 21:49, 4 December 2006 (UTC)
I removed the following addition from the Trivia section for being completely untrue: "*In 1989, Duff began hosting the annual Duff McKagan Bass-Off in his hometown of Seattle, Washington. Every year on the third weekend of July, bassists from all over the world descend on Seattle to show their picking and slapping skills. The winner receives--at Duff's insistence--his/her weight in gold dubloons. In 2006 the Bass-Off set records with more than 112,000 bassists and aggregate attendance of close to 14 million spectators over the four-day weekend." Danikat 20:10, 19 February 2007 (UTC)
Pic
Someone changed the pic, I think the original was much better, and it actually cites it source. So I reverted it back. I hope no one has a problem with that. --Mynabull 19:08, 19 October 2006 (UTC)
Color Blind
I remember seeing Duff interviewed on MTV when he stated that he was color blind. Is this confirmed, or was he maybe lying about it? Darwin's Bulldog 21:06, 22 October 2006 (UTC)
- I can't think of any reason he would lie about it, and I've heard it mentioned several times by fans but I can't recall any other interviews ect. that mentioned it. Danikat 17:06, 22 November 2006 (UTC)
- I've been trying to find out a bit more about this and although I couldn't find anything else about Duff specifically (any mention of it seems to trace back to that one interview), but it seems that colour blindness is much more common in men who are left-handed or who have hazel eyes, both of which apply to Duff so it probably is true.
If no one objects I'll add it to the article, probably under trivia, in a few days (or whenever I remember). Danikat 15:07, 27 November 2006 (UTC)
Trivia Section
A while ago I removed the mention of Duff's pancreas exploding from the trivia section because its also covered in the main article and I see no reason for it to be repeated twice. But now its back, along with a mention of his apperence in the 'Sliders' TV show, which appears to be nothing but an excuse to exhibit someone's faviourite quote. Is there any reason these two facts need repeating twice in this article? If not I'll remove them. Danikat 21:25, 13 August 2007 (UTC)

Kurt Cobain
Shouldn't it be noted somewhere that he was one of the last people to see Cobain alive? He provides much insight into Kurts state of mind in the documentary "The last 48 hours of Kurt Cobain" —Preceding unsigned comment added by 70.134.90.146 (talk) 00:06, 29 October 2009 (UTC)
the simpsons connection
I know he's said multiple times that the beer on the simpsons is named duff after him. that should go in somewhere!
Alice in Chains
Looks like that Duff toured with alice in chains in 2009 - 2010, there are a lot o videos in youtube but i don't know the exact dates and the relationship with the band (if he became a member or just helped the band while other guy was doing something) --Heroijapa (talk) 06:02, 18 October 2010 (UTC)
This link from 2006 confirms that Mr. Duff had played with Alice in Chains: http://www.roadrunnerrecords.com/blabbermouth.net/news.aspx?mode=Article&newsitemID=50824 --Heroijapa (talk) 06:23, 18 October 2010 (UTC)
Later in 2009 he joined Alice in Chains to play at Rock on the Range http://www.roadrunnerrecords.com/blabbermouth.net/news.aspx?mode=Article&newsitemID=120443 --Heroijapa (talk) 06:23, 18 October 2010 (UTC)
this shoud be placed in the other bands sections
- Duff did join the band as a touring member during 2006. However he hasn't tour with them since and the link for 2009 appearance is just him joining them onstage, not performing as a full member of AiC. (HrZ (talk) 13:25, 18 October 2010 (UTC))

Additional instruments
The list of instruments McKagan plays is currently limited to bass guitar and vocals. It used to include guitar, drums and keyboards and I believe those should be added back to the list. At the very least, guitar should be included since he plays it in Loaded and also played it on several Guns N' Roses songs. ChristianJosephAllbee (talk) 20:44, 12 February 2016 (UTC)
- @ChristianJosephAllbee: That's not a "list of instruments" It's the instruments he is known for, secondary instruments are to be included in prose, not the infobox.
- See: Infobox_musical_artist#instrument for the guideline. Cheers, Mlpearc (open channel) 02:55, 13 February 2016 (UTC)
