What is the reason for the split?

Dear colleague @Vanderall:

What is the reason for the split that you've made between the Duchy and the Principality? AFAIK, this was just renaming for convenience, there was a near-perfect continuity in the 8th century. Is there some other encyclopedia that treats these entities as separate ones?
It seems that you have copied a lot of text to the new article Principality of Benevento. Please note that WP:COPYWITHIN requires attribution of the copied text. Please provide this attribution (by making a trivial change to Principality of Benevento and commenting as required by WP:COPYWITHIN.
