Edits to Rakel Mjöll's date of birth

[edit]

Greetings fellow editors! There have been a couple of edits by unregistered editors to the year of birth currently listed in the article for Rakel Mjöll. This estimated year of birth was generated by using an article from Rolling Stone that was published on 31 August 2018 and that listed Mjöll's age as being 27. This may very well have been an error in reporting by Rolling Stone, but in order to update this information we would require a cited reference from a reliable source.

The verifiability of information placed in Wikipedia is very important. Since Wikipedia can be edited by anyone with an internet connection, readers should be able to verify the source of the information they are reading on Wikipedia in order to determine for themselves whether the information is coming from a reliable source and whether said information is truly backed by the source being cited. We also have to respect Mjöll's privacy. If her full birthday has not been published in the mainstream media, then it could very well be that she doesn't want her full date of birth made public. In addition, publishing one's birthday on such a widely-read website can make them subject to identity theft—please see WP:BLPPRIVACY for more info on this subject. I have at least added a "dubious" tag to the current year-of-birth to direct readers to this talk page discussion, which will help to indicate that the current year of birth listed there is supported by a reference, but may not be correct. Cheers! Marchijespeak/peek 21:40, 13 July 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Hello again. So far we've had two editors offer a link to this website as a reference for Rakel Mjöll's year of birth so far, but as I had already addressed on this unregistered editor's talk page, there is nothing that I can see in the text of this website that indicates that the Rakel Mjöll listed there is the same Rakel Mjöll in Dream Wife. We need a better reference that contains reporting by a reliable, published source that makes it clear that they are referring to the Rakel Mjöll in this article. If this becomes too much of a bone of contention we also have the option of removing any mention of her date or year of birth altogether. I am in favour of leaving the page as-is with the currently attributed reference and a dubious tag until a better source can be found, but if any other editors want to weigh-in on the matter and we gain consensus that the information should be removed altogether, I won't contest that decision. She was born 16th dec 1989 - Her full name is Rakel Mjöll Leifsdóttir, her icelandic kennitala is publicly available on thjodskra (the national registry), the first 6 digits of which are her DOB - 161289. Im not going to post the full number although it is easy to get. This website https://glatkistan.com/tag/rakel-mjoll-leifsdottir/ also lists 16th dec as her birthday. 89.160.149.103 (talk) 09:34, 31 August 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks for the link, but unfortunately glatkistan.com would not constitute a reliable source as per Wikipedia's guidelines. If you go to the site's "Um síðuna" section (the "About this site" section) the page says (and I'm getting this from Google Translate, because I don't speak Icelandic): "The database is compiled from oral and written sources, each and every source is not referred to where it is relevant, but all sources can be seen on a separate page for that topic. Sources are not as reliable as it happens, and therefore some things in the database may be outright wrong, however, the website is intended to be interactive in that if readers know better, it goes without saying that they can send a line, in addition, Icelandic music history is nowhere near finished and therefore, any suggestions about Icelandic performers, bands, choirs or anything else people can think of are welcome." So seemingly even this website's creator is stating that the data within it could be wrong and that they welcome input from outside sources and unfortunately we can't cite from a blog whose sources could be user generated. Their months of birth are December 1989 (Rakel), December 1991 (Alice), August 1992 (Bella), as per the legal company filings for Pedigree Picasa ltd. I can't figure out how to actually edit the article Podiluska (talk) 08:47, 13 October 2023 (UTC)[reply]

band members

[edit]

so the drummer is not part of the band? — Preceding unsigned comment added by 2A02:8070:21C2:7300:B40C:14C2:80AF:6F4E (talk) 13:48, 18 July 2020 (UTC)[reply]

If you could provide a reference that we can cite from a reliable source that mentions the drummer, by all means, we can add this information to the article. Preferrably we'd also want information on when they joined the band. I originally created this Wiki article and the only mention of a drummer that I found were a couple of articles from 2018 that mentioned an Alex Paveley whom was simply referred to as their "touring" drummer. I'm not sure if this is who you are referring to or if perhaps they've since hired a different person. The vast majority of the references cited in this article simply made mention of Go, Mjöll and Podpadec. If you are unsure how to format a cited reference, feel free to post links to citable articles here and I can assist with that. Cheers! Marchijespeak/peek 15:45, 18 July 2020 (UTC)[reply]

The band is not named after the movie

[edit]

The band themselves have stated on their instagram, that the original sources are mistaken and that their name does not come from the 1953 movie. Paulgzt (talk) 10:54, 21 November 2023 (UTC)[reply]
