There's nothing I can contribute to this gentleman's bio, but it is directly pasted from the JCS webpage.

This page has a picture with a caption that says Mr. Kimmit is a Defense Department official. But his own page says he is a military officer, currently serving as US Central Command’s deputy director for strategy and plans. One of these pages is wrong I think.

As I understand it, Kimmit is retired, and his current position is on the civilian side of the Department of Defence. Titles like "Deputy Assistant Secretary" are civilian. Tangurena 20:20, 12 August 2007 (UTC)[reply]

I just added a couple updates with links back to the announcements on DefenseLink. Promotion to "flag ranks" in the US is by the President nominating, with the Senate confirming. Typically, the President passes along the list of nominees that the branch of the military proposes to be promoted. In need of update

[edit]

Despite his position it looks like his 2010 retirement wasn't covered in the press much and didn't get updated here for over a year. The only source I could find was an article speculating about his return from retirement for a promotion, which I didn't include as it is just speculation at the moment.
