No one likes west

[edit]

where did that appreciation entry come from? Don West has no knowledge of wrestling what-so-ever and that frustrates fans.

This is officially the most truthful statement on Wikipedia.

We should mention that he was voted the worst color commentator of 2007, according to the Wrestling Observer Awards. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 98.27.179.191 (talk) 17:58, 18 July 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Terri

[edit]

It should really be edited that his wifes name is Terri and that they have been married for 14 or so years. To your normal wrestling fan they may take Terri as in Terri Runnels(Dustin Runnels ex wife).

Picture?

[edit]

Does anyone have a picture where Don doesn't have his eyes half shut and look loaded on yager? —Preceding unsigned comment added by 69.141.110.23 (talk) 06:39, 14 September 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Umm why is there not more info on his shop @ home career? The guy was amazing on that show - selling sports cards at inflated prices and doing so with the sole sales pitch that the cards were a great investment. I recall him saying that a Ken Griffy Jr minor league card was worth over $4,000.His sales pitch was all about making money on cards - not enjoying the hobby of collecting. To anyone with half a brain the show was a brilliant comedy. To the people who baught the hype he was a crook. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 216.9.250.36 (talk) 18:58, 10 April 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Photo

[edit]

I have deleted the photo by request of the photographer, and have asked him for an alternative. This was a courtesy per WP:BLP, please be patient while I try to get a replacement sorted out. Guy (Help!) 19:48, 20 March 2008 (UTC)[reply]

West is not 181 pounds i am 180 and he looks to have atleast 40 to 45 pounds on me. Change?

The man in that Photo was not Don West. I worked at Shop at Home from 11/04/1994 to 01/25/99 {when they went to Nashville from Knoxville.} That is not Don West. Don West would also be older than this man. http://www.donwest.org/ Look at this. here is a site with his real photo on it —Preceding unsigned comment added by 69.241.127.244 (talk) 03:55, 29 March 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Stopped working for TNA?

[edit]

The opening paragraph of the article states that From 2002 until August 2009, West worked for Total Nonstop Action Wrestling. However, isn't this just as colour commentator. I may be wrong, but I'm pretty sure he still works for TNA in some cpacity. However, I am not confident enough of this to change the article. Can anyone clarify? West has passed away

[edit]

His TNA Wrestling broadcast colleague Mike Tenay has confirmed this news on his Twitter page today. I wanted to give the heads up before any edits saying he has passed get flagged as vandalism. Someone more knowledgeable than I may also wish to request protections of the article. This one has been waiting too long, especially for such a short article. I'll have it reviewed shortly. Thebiguglyalien (talk) 23:45, 17 September 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Lee Vilenski, I've looked over the article. The sourcing is the biggest concern here: I found text-source integrity issues on every source that I checked, and several of the sources are inaccessible, failing WP:V if alternate copies can't be found. The structure and formatting of the article also likely need to be redone to meet MOS:LAYOUT and to flow more clearly. Significant reworking of the article is likely necessary before it meets the GA criteria. Thebiguglyalien (talk) 00:40, 18 September 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Well-written
  • The way this article is currently organized creates several one paragraph sections and one line paragraphs. Both should be avoided whenever possible per MOS:PARA. This article is short enough that it might be appropriate to just collect all of the information under one or two biography headings without any subheadings, just written as a straight biography of his life.
  • On a similar note, watch out for WP:PROSELINE.
  • "achieving a degree of fame for his loud, energetic, abrasive sales pitches on late night television and for his blunt tone and persuasive style" – I don't see this anywhere in the body. This is especially important because there's otherwise no mention of his style or demeanor as a commentator.
  • The lead seems to gloss over his career at TNA/Impact, which is arguably what he's most notable for.
  • "Don West initially became involved with television shopping" – "Initially" isn't necessary here. We're at the beginning of the biography, and there are no other jobs to differentiate from at this point.
  • "Despite his degree in sports broadcasting..." – The structure of this sentence suggests that he should have gotten the job, which is not for us to say.
  • "sales rose from $3 million to $150 million" – Sales specifically made by West? The article doesn't specify how much of that increase should be attributed to him.
  • "Both Will Ferrell and Chris Kattan parodied West and his co-host, Eddy Lewis" – It's unclear who parodied whom.
  • "the company being bought out a year later" – Is this relevant to West?
  • "West turned heel when he verbally assaulted and walked out on his commentary partner Tenay" – Do we know whether this was preplanned or an actual outburst? And if it's the latter, does "turned heel" apply?
  • "On May 28, 2012, it was reported..." & "In 2012, West left TNA..." – These sentences describe the same event and should be combined.
  • "(now known as Impact Wrestling)" – "now" is ambiguous here. This could be read as "it was known as TNA in 2017 but now in 2023 it's called Impact Wrestling", or it could be read as "it was known as TNA way back in the day, but by 2017 it was known as Impact Wrestling".
  • "and began treatment." – Did he begin treatment on June 16, the same say that he announced it? That's how it reads right now.
Verifiable with no original research
  • [7] Impact Wrestling (2011) – The content here seems to be inaccessible.
  • [10] TNA Wrestling (2009) – Also inaccessible.
  • [14] IMPACT Wrestling (2017) – The YouTube video is private.
  • [16] Thomas (2023) – What makes Jeremy Thomas at 411 Mania a reliable source?

Spot checks:

  • [1] Cagematch.de – I don't see the date of birth here.
  • [3] Topoleski (2012) – I don't see anything about knives or the day he was married.
  • [6] CBR (2022) – Supports his YouTube show, does not support what he did on it. As noted above, I'm unable to access the other source.
  • [11] Wilkenfeld (2009) – Does this source say that he turned face?
  • [12 & 13] Martin (2012) – The source says "general manager", not "director of sale and marketing"
  • [15] Impact Wrestling (2022) – I was able to verify the existence of the video by checking the links on this page, but it's worth nothing that the page itself doesn't confirm the claim.

Each of these turned up a text-source integrity issue to some degree. This suggests that there are likely more issues in sources that have not been checked.

Broad in its coverage

The article covers the subject's life and career, but it does not give much information about what he actually did or sounded like on TV except for a sentence in the lead and a mention of his "scrabbly voice". Sources about West should be checked to see if any mention his persona, style, presentation, etc.

Neutral

Just a few minor wording issues, which are mentioned above.

Stable

No recent disputes. No reason to believe that the article will need to be significantly changed.
