There seems to be some confusion about where Done Estelle was born. A google search reveals a couple of sources that say he was born in Rochdale but This one Says he was born in Crumpsall and This one says he was born in Manchester but says he was buried in his "home town" of Rochdale, which may be what has caused the confusion. A friend of mine knew Don as a child and says he grew up on Russel Street, Crumpsall and he was pretty sure he was born there. He was evacuated to Darwen in the second world war and later moved back to Crumpsall where he sang at St. Mary's Church. If there is no evidence for the Rochdale connection the category needs to be changed and the article reworded. Richerman 23:38, 17 October 2007 (UTC)[reply]
It seems that Estelle was born and raised in Crumpsall but lived in Rochdale in later life, so I have corrected and expanded the article, added references and added the category "People from Crumpsall" Richerman 23:54, 21 October 2007 (UTC)[reply]

According to the England & Wales Birth Index, the only "Donald Edwards" registered around those parts in the 2nd quarter of 1933 was in Bolton. However, if his name was "Ronald Edwards" as I've just read in a review of his autobiography "Sing Lofty: Thoughts of a Gemini", then he was registered in Manchester North (mother's maiden name Gordon) which to me would indicate Crumpsall. Perhaps his name should be changed to reflect this. 07:22, 10 October 2012 (UTC) — Preceding unsigned comment added by Kmitch87 (talkcontribs)

I heard a clip of Estelle singing on a BBC 7 'Listen Again' programme a while ago. He had a seriously-good voice, well suited to the 40's-50's style 'crooner' period, in fact, I was quite surprised how good he was, 'Whispering Grass' doesn't really do his voice justice. I think there must be 'proper' recordings of him still available. If you like that sort of songs and music I can recommend him. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 213.40.254.12 (talk) 19:23, 17 August 2009 (UTC)[reply]

"Ethnicity"

[edit]

What is this to do with anything? Can we drop it? Safebreaker (talk) 07:28, 28 September 2011 (UTC) The article has English as nationality. No such thing. It's British. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 2A00:23C8:3B02:4E01:19E3:D562:D889:CFD0 (talk) 22:28, 9 January 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Unsourced commentary

[edit]

The prose added in this 2011 change needs deleting; it may have been acceptable way back then, but appears to be commentary from the man being (self)quoted. I've tagged it as {{where}} [was it said] and {{citation needed}}.--86.29.222.228 (talk) 21:52, 3 October 2019 (UTC)[reply]
