How did he die?

[edit]

the article on task force faith say that he mistakenly ran towards a column of Chinese and was shot and died 4 days later but his MOH citation mentions something completely different. Undoubtedly he was a fine officer, who did the best he could, but the MOH citation leads me to think that it was a political move to mitigate the embarrassment 131.104.242.4 (talk) 04:04, 9 November 2009 (UTC)[reply]

~The article you read must have gotten COL MacLean and LTC Faith mixed up. While on foot, COL MacLean mistakenly thought a group of soldiers shooting at another group were both part of his task force. He ran towards them to prevent what he thought was fratricide. His mistake was fatal when they shot and killed him. The command of the 31st then fell upon LTC Faith's shoulders. For a greater review, I highly recommend Roy Appleman's book, East of Chosin Bristus (talk) 12:52, 3 December 2020 (UTC)[reply]
