Welcome to new editor
[edit]To editor Erika LaTour:
Hi, and welcome to Wikipedia. I'm sorry to hear of the death of your great-grandmother, who sounds like she was a wonderful person. I'm writing to let you about some problems with the article on her as it now stands. Most immediately, it contains a verbatim copy of the Tribune article, and that's a no-no because it violates the Tribune's copyright. The material will have to be paraphrased and condensed. (I'm hoping that this note will inspire another editor to get a start on that -- I just don'e have time myself.)
In the longer term, there may be what we call a "notability" problem. Though your great-grandmother was a noble, wise, and hardworking person, Wikipedia is supposed to cover only people who are "notable", meaning that they've been the subject of multiple independent sources. (It's a little more complicated than that -- see WP:NOTABILITY.) Are there other articles about things she's done, her community activism, events in her life, and so on? Was she discussed in any books on local history? These will be crucial to determining whether it's appropriate for there to be a separate article on her, but even if not, her extreme longevity probably qualifies her for for short writeup in the appropriate lists of supercentenarians.

- Thank You. I will try to paraphrase the article more and hopefully other editors will help as well. For the notability problem I will let you know what I know about her in terms of what has been written about her and so forth. I actually did not create the wiki page for her. I'm not sure who did but I just found it last night and so decided to add some more information about her. I know that the building she lived in last she was there a the ground breaking so I have a picture of that but not the article. the photo of her receiving an award I have the newspaper article regarding that event where others were also noted for getting awards. The Velasco building in Oakland on Foothill is named after her. There is a statue called "sigue me" with plaques honoring pioneering woman of oakland which includes a plaque for her. The Oakland museum did an exhibition on her and currently have donated photos on their online collection. They also completed local history books and she is included. The Oakland tribune just called me today to write another article on her. Again thank you for your condolences and help.

- Unfortunately many articles on "oldsters" were created in the past hastily, and their notability is being reviewed now. Material from the museum exhibit, and the local history books, will be perfect. However, don't just copy them into the article, for copyright reasons. Just see what you can find for now. - So that we're not leaving a copyright violation in the article, I've removed the text of Tribune piece. However, you can view it at this link [1] for use in developing the article. EEng (talk) 21:42, 14 October 2015 (UTC)
Again, thank you very much. A new article was written about her today: http://www.mercurynews.com/breaking-news/ci_28992109/oakland-latino-activist-dominguita-velasco-dies-at-age the article also mentions the book she was in "Toward a Common Past: Latinos in the East Bay." ignacio de la fuente is also quoted saying she was one of the first latino female business owners. she was also a single mom.
heres the link to the oakland museum book project article about dominguita: http://explore.museumca.org/LHP/images/4_socialife.pdf http://explore.museumca.org/LHP/nar_community.htm
