Dolours Price named Gerry Adams as IRA

[edit]

I don't have WP:RS for this, but it's frequently quoted that Dolours Price named Gerry Adams as her "commanding officer" when convicted of a bombing in 1982 (?). Does anyone have a good reference for this, and shouldn't it be in this article? PalestineRemembered 16:54, 3 May 2007 (UTC)[reply]

There is a source, but please see the discussion about Adams on WP:ANI first. Thanks. One Night In Hackney303 16:55, 3 May 2007 (UTC)[reply]

PoW?

[edit]

Is it correct to categorise her as a Prisoner of War? Pontificake 21:18, 11 July 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Surely this is incorrect. The PIRA's campaign for "political status" was, in many ways, an attempt to secure the rights accorded PoW. To call Dolours Price as PoW is take the PIRA's side in a still disputed area.

Additionally, there is no sourcing for the claim that Price was force feed during her hunger strike. I think this can be substantiated, but needs a direct citation. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 80.177.190.147 (talk) 08:55, 21 July 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Old Bailey bomb

[edit]

I took this detail from the Gerry Kelly article. 'Two of the car bombs were defused but the other two exploded, one near the Old Bailey and the other at Scotland Yard. As a result of the explosions one person was killed and almost 200 people were injured.'

If it was acceptable there then it is acceptable here surely? 86.147.53.235 (talk) 13:22, 7 August 2009 (UTC)[reply]

You have been warned ample times about adding unsourced information to articles, in particular articles about living people. O Fenian (talk) 15:15, 7 August 2009 (UTC)[reply]

The source is Wikipedia itself. You keep changing the charges O Fenian and yet you have not even specified the item that offends.

This is getting positively kafkaesque with threat after threat of blocking while the crime keeps shape shifting.86.147.53.235 (talk) 05:17, 8 August 2009 (UTC)[reply]

I do not need to specify anything. Do not add any unsourced content to any article, in particular articles about living people. O Fenian (talk) 09:14, 8 August 2009 (UTC)[reply]

If I reference the details of the dead and injured to Kelly article will that do?86.164.243.211 (talk) 11:43, 13 August 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Wikipedia cannot source itself. O Fenian (talk) 21:07, 16 August 2009 (UTC)[reply]
I see, despite the large number of warnings you have received, you are now edit warring to include commentary which is not present in the source material. O Fenian (talk) 23:07, 20 August 2009 (UTC)[reply]

What O Fenian in this contended paragraph is unsourced information about a living person? "On that day, a referendum, known as the 'Border Poll', was held to determine if Northern Ireland was to remain part of the United Kingdom. In protest at the referendum, the IRA planted four car bombs in London. Two of the bombs were defused but the others exploded, one near the Old Bailey and the second at Scotland Yard. As a result of the explosions one person was killed and almost 200 people were injured.[1]" If you can't tell me it goes back. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 81.156.37.56 (talk) 22:52, 29 August 2009 (UTC)[reply]

You are adding your own commentary to what the source says. If you are incapable of accurately paraphrasing a source, I do not see why other editors should be forced to spoon-feed you through why your version does not accurately paraphrase the source. O Fenian (talk) 21:55, 30 August 2009 (UTC)[reply]
Which part is my commentary O Fenian?86.150.37.115 (talk) 19:18, 2 September 2009 (UTC)[reply]
If you are incapable of accurately paraphrasing a source, I do not see why other editors should be forced to spoon-feed you through why your version does not accurately paraphrase the source. O Fenian (talk) 00:12, 1 October 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Wikipedia guidelines encourage editors not to revert wholesale if parts are worthy of inclusion. So where is the problem?--Fynire (talk) 09:36, 2 October 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Wikipedia policy does not allow editors to add their own commentary to what sources say. O Fenian (talk) 09:38, 2 October 2009 (UTC)[reply]
How about you only revert the parts that are actually sourced, or on here take us word for word through the source and compare it to your additions? O Fenian (talk) 09:58, 2 October 2009 (UTC)[reply]
This is what Gerry Kelly said in 2007 about the bombings so the border poll is not irrelevant but the reason. Should readers not be allowed to know O Fenian or did the IRA kill for no reason?

"We were sent over to bomb London in March ‘73 – it was known as the Old Bailey bombings.'...There was a referendum on the border set for 8 March. Nationalists boycotted the referendum and only 57 per cent of the electorate took part in the poll. The car bombs were set to go off for 8 March – the date of the referendum. It was a Belfast Brigade operation for GHQ. Two car bombs were defused but two went off – one at the Old Bailey and one at Scotland Yard." http://www.anphoblacht.com/news/detail/22590 —Preceding unsigned comment added by Fynire (talkcontribs) 22:48, 16 October 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Where do you think he says that was the reason the bombs were planted? O Fenian (talk) 20:04, 21 October 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Volunteer vs member

[edit]

I feel "member" is a suitably neutral word to describe people who were involved with the IRA. "Volunteer" is their preferred word but it seems too much like self-advertisement, implying moral superiority over their paid opponents. It's OK in a quotation but not in a neutral reference source. Cause of death

[edit]

The statement "In January 2013 Price died by suicide" isn't referenced and is contradicted by the inquest:

"Dr Farrell said that there was no evidence to support a verdict of suicide. He returned a verdict of death by misadventure.

Date of birth?

[edit]

Was she really born in December 1950? At the end of the documentary about her (written by Ed Moloney) they say she was 61 when she died. Another source (thejournal.ie) says the same. Munsalan kansallispuku (talk) 19:37, 21 September 2020 (UTC)[reply]
