The list made up by Staley is full of mistakes. E. g. "Felicita Bembo" (probably an invention of the mid 18th century) was not the wife of Enrico Dandolo. The correct name of his wife, a Contessa, who occurs in several well preserved documents, is not mentioned at all. --Hans-Jürgen Hübner (talk) 03:13, 12 May 2017 (UTC)[reply]
According to a scholar, Staley's work belongs to the "tradition of a romanticized, exaggerated, and often outright fabricated treatment of the dogaressa", "(this) account has a fictional and fanciful focus, often sacrificing historical accuracy for the sake of storytelling and turn of phrase. Staley unabashedly slipped and slid across the blurred boundaries of history and legend (...)" [1] Since it is the sole basis for the article's list of dogaresse and to most specific articles, there is much work to do (or often rather "undo", since in a lot of cases there is simply almost no informations about the historical characters, and the void has been filled by Staley's imagination).--Phso2 (talk) 13:21, 8 December 2019 (UTC)[reply]
