Edit suggestion
[edit]@PlanespotterA320: Not sure if you have time, but this article has been nominated at recent deaths but cannot be promoted yet due to lack of citations. If you have the sources/time to work on it, good deal; if not, no worries. Kees08 (Talk) 16:40, 27 February 2020 (UTC)
William Odom, Soviet defence minister?
[edit]At least that's what the text says. Along with some Google Translate-ish quote from Vlast' magazine.2A02:AA1:1613:48F1:7C28:5CA6:C4C1:5830 (talk) 21:47, 24 September 2020 (UTC)
Vandalism
[edit]Can we semi protect the article so fans of "The New Order: Last Days of Europe" stop posting "references" to Yazov being a possible leader of Russia in a modification for a grand strategy game? It's not relevant to Wikipedia. Dsobol0513 (talk) 04:22, 12 August 2021 (UTC)
- Wikipedia:Requests for page protection is the place to request this. But, while I understand your concerns as expressed here, your user page, and on Talk:Sergey Taboritsky#Request for Protection, the levels of vandalism fall well below that which would justify protection - see Wikipedia:Protection policy - and it's against policy to pre-empt possible future vandalism related to the Hearts of Iron game. I speak as the user who last reverted vandalism to this page (9 July 2021) and to the Sergey Taboritsky page (relatively recent, 10 August 2021) and has had my page vandalised for doing so. These are generally vandalism sprees that are very quickly caught, reverted, and the users blocked without any trouble. The alternative is that a gamer might come to these pages as a result of the game, and then make useful edits, so we should be open to that possibility as well. Home town
[edit]In 2016 Geregen2 (talk · contribs) categorised this person in Category:People from Okoneshnikovsky District,[1] but in 2019 Rakoon (talk · contribs) stated their birthplace as Yazovo, Krestinsky volost, Kalachinsky District.[2]
Please resolve or explain this. Was he born in one district and later lived in the other district? When the facts are clear, he can be listed under "Notable residents" in the appropriate district article(s). – Fayenatic London 13:42, 8 November 2022 (UTC)
- Hi, Fayenatic london (talk · contribs), Krestinsky volost was an administrative subdivision that existed at the time of his birth in 1924, and Yazovo, the village he was born it, belonged to that volost. The volost was reorganized to Krestinsky District in 1925. In 1929 Krestinsky District was dissolved, Yazovo was moved to Kalachinsky District. In 1935, a new Okoneshnikovsky District was created, and Yazovo was moved to that new district, and it still is a part of that district today. Kalachinsky District did not exist in 1924 when Yazov was born, so the listing of "Yazovo, Krestinsky volost, Kalachinsky District" as his birthplace looks incorrect. That's all based on the Russian language Wikis for the respective districts. Hope that explains it! Geregen2 (talk) 14:07, 8 November 2022 (UTC)
- Thank you! That explains the reason for the error. I think this article should say he was "born in Yazovo, Krestinsky volost (now Okoneshnikovsky District)". The category is being merged anyway, but it would be right to list him on the Okoneshnikovsky District page. OK? – Fayenatic London 15:37, 8 November 2022 (UTC)
- Yeah, sounds good! Geregen2 (talk) 15:42, 8 November 2022 (UTC)
