Odd sentence

[edit]

Although it is well known that Nabokov also writes, he does not share his pen name, unlike his father.

What does this mean? My gut-hunch is that "does not share his pen name" actually means that he does write under a pen name; but if so, it's a very odd way of putting it. -- Jack of Oz [your turn] 08:53, 2 April 2011 (UTC)[reply]
I don’t understand what is the confusion. Yes, Dmitri Nabokov does or did write under a pen name. He said that in the interview linked in the footnotes, where he also explains why he keeps this pen name a secret. – AmbrosiaSnail —Preceding undated comment added 02:39, 13 November 2011 (UTC).[reply]
Nabokov isn't a pen name, it was their real name, so it should say that he wrote under a pen name, unlike his father who wrote under his real name. Jim Michael (talk) 18:09, 24 February 2012 (UTC)[reply]
So, when it says "he did not share his pen name", what it's trying to say is that he did not reveal or disclose his pen name. The word "share" in this context is very misleading and ambiguous, because it would normally mean having the same pen name as some other writer. But since we don't know what his pen name was (because he never revealed it publicly), "share" is veyr inappropriate. I'm changing it. -- Jack of Oz [your turn] 21:43, 24 February 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Dmitri's date of death

[edit]

The following appeared in the New York Times:

Correction: July 13, 2012

An obituary on Feb. 26 about Dmitri Nabokov, the son and literary executor of Vladimir Nabokov, misstated the date of his death. It was Thursday, Feb. 23 — not Wednesday, Feb. 22. (Though his death was announced in the United States on Feb. 22, he died in Switzerland, where it was already Feb. 23.) The error recently came to the attention of Times editors during the preparation of an essay about Mr. Nabokov that will appear in the Book Review on Sunday, July 22.
