Use of title Dr

[edit]

I have removed the title "Dr" from Anne Webster that was added by @Thescrubbythug:. Consistent with Results of the 2019 Australian federal election in Victoria we don't normally include "Dr" in lists of members, whether they are medical practitioners eg Wentworth (Kerryn Phelps) and Bradfield (Brendan Nelson) or Phd, eg Fenner (Andrew Leigh), Melbourne (Dennis Jensen) and Senators (Brett Mason). I am not aware of any policy or style directions one way or the other, but we should keep the encyclopedia consistent. Find bruce (talk) 22:55, 6 July 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Quite right. MOS:DOCTOR is the relevant link. Frickeg (talk) 23:01, 6 July 2019 (UTC)[reply]
On the contrary @Find bruce: I think the title "Dr" should be added and kept on these member lists, and it's something I've tried to include when possible - such as with Jim Cairns (which is still include on the Division of Yarra page, though I've noticed it's since been removed for Lalor), Doug Everingham, and Katie Allan. I have yet to work on the NSW pages, while Leigh and Jensen were oversights that I forgot to take into account. I think the title should be included as most sources - be it parliamentary or otherwise - refer to the members by this title, and I'm surprised that they haven't been included on these sorts of lists yet. The general rule according to MOS is: national honours yes, professional titles no. I would suggest raising this at WT:AUP, as it is true that they have been routinely included in lists of members per parliament. It is a little bit WP:POINTy, too, to go around adding them to all the articles immediately after it has been challenged. Frickeg (talk) 08:01, 8 July 2019 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks Frickeg, I am happy to discuss this & agree that WT:AUP is probably the best place to resolve it. Thescrubbythug do you want me to raise it there, or would you like to ? Find bruce (talk) 10:49, 8 July 2019 (UTC)[reply]
Yeah, that's probably the best course of action. I'm happy for you to raise it there Find bruce Thescrubbythug (talk) 01:49, 9 July 2019 (UTC)[reply]
