Disambiguation

[edit]

Perhaps this should redirect to Canonical hours, which is more general. Liturgy of the hours specifically refers to the reform of the Divine Office in the Latin Rite of the Roman Catholic Church after the Second Vatican Council. —Preceding unsigned comment added by Marcusscotus1 (talkcontribs) 24 Feb 2006

The Liturgy of the Hours page now has information on the Divine Office before and after the Council, so I'm going to redirect to there. Dgf32 (talk) 00:57, 20 March 2008 (UTC)[reply]
I think in most cases people looking for "Divine Office" are generally looking for the Divine Office, which is the Liturgy of the Hours so I'm going to re-redirect it there. A disambiguation link to Canonical hours already exists at Liturgy of the Hours. The other option would be to make Divine Office a disambiguation instead of a redirect. On second thought, a disambiguation page would probably be best. Ideally, I think perhaps Liturgy of the Hours and Canonical hours could be merged, but given that that's probably not going to happen, a disambiguation is probably most appropriate. Dgf32 (talk) 23:22, 15 May 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Canonical hours refers to Hours of the day, Divine office refers to the practice of praying the Canonical hours, Liturgy of the hours refers to a specific form of the Divine office promulgated after 1973. Liturgy of the Hours is a style of divine office like the Roman breviary is, they are not actually "the same". Seperation of Liturgy of the Hours and Divine Office

[edit]

The divine office describes the practice of praying a set of prayers at each of the canonical hours. Liturgy of the hours is a specific format for which the divine office is prayed within the Roman rite. The two should not be seen as synonomous. The Litugy of the hours should be grouped alongside other types of breviaries of the roman rite.

I have made this set of drafts to show how they should be seperated:

The Divine Office Page should likely cover forms of the divine office as recited by each rite, not only the roman rite. Magjozs (talk) 17:30, 28 December 2018 (UTC)[reply]
