Shouldn't the first equation have H2CO3 in it too? I'm not confident enough to change it...


H2CO3 is included in the CT calculation via CO2*. In practise, it is diffcult to separate CO2 from H2CO3, so they both included in the CO2* term. In seawater their relationship is independant of pH and is as follows:

CO2* = CO2 + H2CO3
H2CO3 = CO2/850
CO2* = CO2(1 + 1/850)
