Not done This is not the right page to request additional user rights.
If you want to suggest a change, please request this in the form "Please replace XXX with YYY" or "Please add ZZZ between PPP and QQQ".
Please also cite reliable sources to back up your request, without which no information should be added to, or changed in, any article. - Arjayay (talk) 09:38, 31 May 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Citing IMDb

[edit]

@Cyphoidbomb: Honestly i felt hard to understand your explanation for the revert you made. I wonder what's wrong with this edit where i cited WP:IMDB/RS which completely prohibits the use of IMDb as reference/source for statements made in the articles and highly recommends the use of more reliable sources. And am unaware of any such guideline/s which recommends the use of citing references within PLOT section, as against may be in SYNOPSIS section. Even WP:CITEIMDB sounds similar. Else was your revert based on Tertiary source, which if so may likely confront WP:IMDB/RS or WP:CITEIMDB. Kindly enlighten. --βα£α(ᶀᶅᶖᵵᵶ) 01:17, 30 July 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Balablitz, thanks for your note. My reversion has nothing to do with the quality of the source. The phrasing "When India's top batsman goes missing in the Middle East, two cops from either side of the Arabian Sea team for a 36 -hour man hunt." is found verbatim at IMDb. All prose is considered copyrighted once it becomes "fixed", in this case, once it is published at IMDb. By removing the reference and the quotation marks, you are changing a direct quotation to look like original content produced by Wikipedians. This constitutes plagiarism, which is a no-no in academia. It's also probably constitutes a copyright violation since you are creating a situation where Wikipedia is unfairly republishing another site's creative work without permission or proper attribution. If you wish to remove the entire plot summary as insufficiently sourced, you're welcome to do that (the movie just came out, so I'm sure someone will replace it shortly), but leaving unattributed copy/pasted prose is not cool. Hope that explanation helps. Regards, Cyphoidbomb (talk) 01:45, 30 July 2016 (UTC)[reply]
Cyphoidbomb Gotcha.  Thank you very much! for the explanation. Will mind such things in future. --βα£α(ᶀᶅᶖᵵᵶ) 01:56, 30 July 2016 (UTC)[reply]
Appreciated. And for the record, I almost always remove content attributed to IMDb. In this case, it was an uncontroversial piece of information and I couldn't find an alternative anywhere else at the time. So when this guy added the summary and I noticed it was a copyvio, I had to change it to a quote and attribute the source. I also warned him for the violation. Para 1 Line 1 : The name of Saqib Salim is misspelled. Para 3 Line 1 : Reveled instead of Revealed is spelled. Para 5 Line 1 : Kabir returns "back" - No back when using return.

That's all I found. :D

Done A little more specificity would be helpful next time so editors don't have to read the entire article to figure out what must be changed. "Please change 'him shoulder' to 'his shoulder' in the Plot section." is all you'd need to do. Thanks. Cyphoidbomb (talk) 17:56, 8 August 2016 (UTC)[reply]
