Audio Formats

[edit]

Discovery+ does not list their supported audio formats. As of 2021-12-03 all their content is streamed in only stereo with no surround-sound support (AC3/5.1/etc). I suspect they do not disclose this because it is a major negative to those who expect at least 5.1 audio on a modern streaming platform. I have verified it is only stereo with Discovery+ support, directly. And several threads on Reddit also confirm this, such as: https://www.reddit.com/r/ShieldAndroidTV/comments/kqa5uy/discovery_plus/ or https://www.reddit.com/r/cordcutters/comments/kzaa8c/discovery_good_and_bad/ However, I have been unable to find any review or authoritative source to cite. Citing Reddit or my own confirmation is not adequate. Just because it is un-cited does not make it untrue or less valuable to point out to those who are looking for information about Discovery+.

As such, I tagged the information provided under the "Criticism" section with a "citation needed", but it would be best to leave this valid information in the article until someone can either prove or disprove it with a citation.

This is the exact Email from the Discovery+ support team:

Hello There,
Thank you for reaching out to us. I am so sorry for your frustrations of not being able to stream discovery+ in surround sound. While this specific feature to stream in surround sound is not currently available, please know we are working hard to continually improve the consumer experience.

I’ll also be happy to share your request with our developers for future consideration. I do hope you can come back to us in the near future. If you should have any further questions, please feel free to reach back out to us.

Best Regards,
Sarah

Proposed merger with HBO Max

[edit]

I think the articles should be merged after the deal is done. This would make save the trouble of creating another article. However, let's make sure to save the info prior to the merger.
