Page Reorganisation 16 April 2008
[edit]I have completely changed the Dinas Powys page so that it complies with the suggested layout for WP:Layout for settlement pages. The article still needs references and I will attempt to add those in coming weeks.
However, what is now needed is some locally living resident to add information that I cannot collect from the internet, like facilities, clubs, sports clubs and more demographic information from the last census. A few nice photographs uploaded via Geograph with Commons licences would be nice too.
We now have a sound foundation to work from. Let's pad the page out a bit more now. 21stCenturyGreenstuff (talk) 14:40, 16 April 2008 (UTC)
Denis ap Bleddyn?
[edit]Just curious where the unreferenced info about Dinas Powis being named after a woman called Denis ap Bleddyn, Princess of Powys, came from. I can find nothing about her in either Google or the Wiki articles on her father and spouse. Can somebody please come up with a valis cite for this major historical change? 21st CENTURY GREENSTUFF 12:39, 8 February 2010 (UTC)
- Incorrect. "Dinas" here means "fort" - which refers to the nearby hill fort north-west of the village. See:Dicionary of the Place-names of Wales, Gomer Press, 2007 page 124 and 125. The word was first used in 1187. Llywelyn2000 (talk) 06:39, 11 September 2010 (UTC)
