Patterns

First off, I am a total noob to Verhulst's work. But having done a bit of research, I was somewhat shocked that no patterns were mentioned when discussing e.g. La Merditude des Choses. It seems that either critics who can't fathom these circumstances are giving more or less negative reviews or other critics, who see this state of affairs as an unchangeable facet of society, think it is only a comedic account of a way of life. It seems to me that Verhulst did a great job of pointing out destructive behavior patterns of people under the influence of "soft" drugs in a culturally starved environment. Verhulst also pointed out various successful and unsuccessful attempts to break this vicious cycle. Bottom line: I am surprised, no one came up with a summary of patterns extracted from Verhulsts plots. Can anyone who knows his works better than I comment if there are any articles that provide an overview of themes and patterns in Verhulst's works? — Preceding unsigned comment added by 75.80.109.160 (talk) 06:02, 23 January 2012 (UTC)[reply]
