Reference 3 seems inappropriate

[edit]

Reference 3 is used as a citation for the statement that "use of these chemicals was banned in 2011 due to safety concerns". This paper doesn't mention a 2011 ban. In fact the paper was published in 2009. Dimethoate is sill used in Australia. According to this story (https://www.abc.net.au/news/2023-09-23/dimethoate-use-suspended-on-mangoes-avocados-post-harvest/102758696) it WAS banned for some fruits in 2011, but continued to be used for mangoes, avocados and citrus. Now (Sep 2023) it's about to be banned for mangoes and avocados.

Cygon not mentioned

[edit]

In the 60's spraying Cygon around on barn walls and manure piles wipes out the flies. Why isn't Cygon listed under trade names? How did google find this article?

Hi everyone, I just wanted to give a heads up that I was going to begin committing some edits to the page. I will probably be making most of my edits in short bursts, pending my class and research schedule for the remainder of the semester. So far in my sandbox I have started a section on Uses for dimethoate, have edited punctuation on some headings, corrected (hopefully) the Reference 3 issue discussed here, and added information to expand upon Fruit fly control efforts in Australia.
I also hope to add a section on health effects, as well as environmental fate.
Please don't hesitate to reach out if there is any questions or concerns regarding my edits, I'll do my best to respond as soon as my schedule allows. Msp20bt (talk) 18:15, 29 October 2023 (UTC)[reply]
