Digital Signal Processors (DSP) and Digital Signal Controllers (DSC) are distinct concepts. Since both are foreign to most readers, it may be better to not join their pages.
The DSC contains a DSP, and the distinctions between different constellations of general processing power, signal processing power, and increasingly also FPGA capabilities on some of these chips, will continue to vary in the foreseeable future. Today, we have no reason to confuse readers by hoarding too many aspects into the same page. (KISS, please.) 93.106.165.165 (talk) 18:58, 13 April 2012 (UTC)
- Being one of those readers, I'm in complete agreement with keeping them separate and not packing too much info together. At a vendor's site, I was glancing for the first time at one of the IC's mentioned in the list, but was uncertain what the dividing line was. So I googled "what is a DSC microcontroller?" --- and here I am. Although I am hands-on familiar with both DSP and microcontroller chips, finding DSC here as a first link made it instantly clear what one of these devices is. So this page *worked* as is. Besides the KISS principle, I second the motion of separation, on the grounds of "if it ain't broke, don't fix it". Wading through a page describing say DSPs, then Micros, and then both would have been more work than necessary. ( Saved me enough time to at least post this ... and BTW, tangentially, who precisely decides to flag such posts with "it has been suggested that this be merged with ... " and similar ? Why don't we see who these meta-level people are ? Shouldn't this be discussed FIRST in the talk section and we see who is making such decisions on our behalf (without us knowing)? I'd love to go round and pass such indiscriminate judgements from on high. ... just saying ... [Edit: OOPS guess I'd better read the "merge" page. ) — Preceding unsigned comment added by 74.178.214.172 (talk) 01:12, 7 June 2013 (UTC)
- I second the motion to keep them separate. Good example of KISS. Very helpful to work with the links and open specific definitons in different pages. I send my students to read these pages to learn the definitions. Faster than books! — Preceding unsigned comment added by Mwinokurm (talk • contribs) 09:35, 25 October 2013 (UTC)
