Solid for the most part. I think there are one or two overlong quotes, and there are a few things to tweak or improve. Ping me when addressed. Sammi Brie (she/her • tc) 22:02, 2 January 2025 (UTC)[reply]

Did you know? If you fancy doing so, I always have plenty of GA nominees to review. Just look for the all-uppercase titles in the Television section. Reviews always appreciated.

Copy changes

[edit]

Background

[edit]
  • The Cowboys won that game, 24–20 Remove unneeded comma
  • Hyphenate "first-round" in "first-round bye"
  • try "seven out of eight"

Game summary

[edit]
  • The Cowboys received the ball to begin the game, but quickly went three-and-out. Remove unneeded comma (WP:CINS)
  • The play before the score, Romo threw incomplete but a pass interference penalty on Tramon Williams brought the ball to the 1-yard line. Add a comma after "incomplete"
  • the Packers Packers drove 38-yards duplicate; remove hyphenation here
  • the Packers continued on offense, but quickly had to punt after five plays Remove comma CINS
  • Dallas took over, but running back DeMarco Murray fumbled at the Cowboys' 41-yard line on a tackle by Julius Peppers, which was recovered by Datone Jones at the Dallas 44-yard line. Reword this structure. Datone Jones didn't recover a tackle. Dallas took over, but running back DeMarco Murray fumbled at the Cowboys' 41-yard line on a tackle by Julius Peppers; Datone Jones recovered the fumble at the Dallas 44-yard line.
  • Dallas' should be Dallas's per MOS:'S

Aftermath

[edit]
  • in Packers' playoff history no possessive. should be just in Packers playoff history
    • Maybe say "one of the 25 greatest", not "one of the greatest" (especially since it came in 25th on the list)
  • catch an future changes should be "and"
  • Hyphenate "game-winning"
  • The Seifert quote is longer than it should be and probably should be phrased in our words. The NFL quote possibly, but as the league's wording it might be worth keeping.
  • Turn the double-dashes in the quote into space endashes or unspaced emdashes.

Sourcing and spot checks

[edit]

Reviewed: 2, 4, 19, 26, 30

  • The publisher for 30 should be The Athletic. This was years prior to the NYT purchase of the site.

Encouragement: Consider dropping ".com" and just linking the sites: ESPN instead of "ESPN.com", etc.

The Lambeau image is freely licensed. If we ever get a free image of Steratore (we don't have one), it would go well here.

Sammi Brie, thank you for the review! Please bear with me, I'm in the process of getting a new laptop, so this is all from my phone. I have addressed all your comments except two. First, regarding The Athletic, I understand where you are coming from, but when I retrieved the article, it was the NYT, so that's what I reported in the ref. Anything else would be a little bit of OR. Regarding the Seifert quote, I like it because it specifically references this game as an example. Let me know your thoughts, and should be able to navigate a bit easier on Monday when my new laptop comes. « Gonzo fan2007 (talk) @ 17:17, 4 January 2025 (UTC)[reply]
@Gonzo fan2007: I disagree on The Athletic. A comparable to me is in my newspaper work. Newspapers.com sometimes isn't great at attributing merged mastheads, so I might end up with a Durham Morning Herald clipping listed as The Herald-Sun but from well before they merged. I don't think it's OR to correctly attribute a site's contents. I also think that at least the second sentence of the Seifert quote could be paraphrased, something like this...

Kevin Seifert of ESPN reported, per Giants owner John Mara, that the NFL competition committee "appears to have unanimous agreement that controversial catch rulings involving Dez Bryant and Calvin Johnson should have been ruled complete" and was working to "relax the 'going to the ground' requirement".
