Desmond was (IIRC) patron of a local air ambulance charity in the New Forest area, also he suffered deafness caused by an assault (he was hit with a car jack) early in his journalistic career.

I would add them into the main article myself, but I'm not neutral and I don't think I can add in good conscience (Desmond was my uncle). RedHillian 16:46, 22 August 2006 (UTC)

Family history

I'll have a trawl and see if I can find some online references for stuff - I'm not about to put up family histories here. There was a This Is Your Life episode on TV a few years back, which had some biographical info included, that might be a start when I have some time. --RedHillian (talk) 15:41, 1 September 2008 (UTC)

OK, the BFI database http://ftvdb.bfi.org.uk/sift/individual/93961 confirms he was born in Welwyn Garden City, England so that can go in - but I'm having trouble finding reference to the rest of his family - not totally surprising, barring Esther and now Rebecca (his daughter) working in investigative journalism, I don't think the rest of the family would make WP notability, so finding stuff might be hard! --RedHillian (talk) 23:38, 19 September 2008 (UTC)
