Merge proposal

[edit]

Wikipedia already has a well-established and well-referenced article on the topic of Configurators. This article, which purports to be about Design Automation, is really just a content fork of the existing article. It mentions (with a citation to this doctoral dissertation that fails verification) that there are three degrees of design automation, but it only discusses one degree in any detail: Configure-to-order. But that article already redirects to Configurator, so we really have no new information in this article. I recommend that it just be recast as a redirect to the existing article. In my opinion Design Automation is a know concept in the configurator market. This is not just a configurator, but KBE software integrated into CAD software. It is also known as Product Configurator, but the software companies on the market right now calls this Design automation. If this article isn't qualified as an article, I at least suggest adding a topic "Design Automation" on the Configurator page with this information below. --StormUser (talk) 08:12, 21 May 2015 (UTC)[reply]

@StormUser: If I understand you correctly, you are asserting that "design automation" in the context of this article refers to a variety of configurator that is "smarter" based on knowledge-based engineering. If you can find reliable sources to back that up, I would support the expansion of the existing configurator article to include the mention of KBE-based design automation tools.
One of the problems this article poses is that "design automation" can apply to a lot of different fields, and means different things in all of those fields. The context here is really "mechanical design automation" or "product design automation". But in any case, a small expansion of the existing configurator page would add all of the useful information necessary. WikiDan61ChatMe!ReadMe!! 13:38, 21 May 2015 (UTC)[reply]
In the absence of any further dissent to this proposal, and with no validly sourced material to work with, I have closed this merge by redirecting the page to Configurator. WikiDan61ChatMe!ReadMe!! 14:06, 15 June 2015 (UTC)[reply]
