[edit]Yes MERGE. Inge 18:01, 18 January 2006 (UTC)
- My "yes merge" comment above was intended for the merger of Dronning Maud Land and Queen Maude Land.Inge 20:32, 31 January 2006 (UTC)
- Better still: merge also the (sub-)antarctic uninhabited Norwegian islands into the same article (it has already been moved to a common name: Norwegian Antarctic Territory) Fastifex 23:24, 21 January 2006 (UTC)
Borders
[edit]I believe I learned that the Norwegian Antarctic territory is the only claim that doesn't extend to 90S and doesn't have a definite northern limit (whereas the rest of them specifically run from 60S to 90S. Can this be a) confirmed and b) added (if confirmed)? --Canuckguy 22:03, 4 March 2007 (UTC)
- I've learned the same, but found no documentation to back me up, so I haven't changed the errors in various articles. The map at Image:Antarctica.jpg does appear to support that QML is not a sector. Jørgen 18:24, 18 March 2007 (UTC)
- And, by the way, I think the reason for this is that Norway promotes the mid-line principle rather than the sector principle in the border conflict with Russia in the Arctic Ocean, and doesn't want the Antarctic claim to be inconsistent with this. Jørgen 18:26, 18 March 2007 (UTC)
official name
[edit]Is this "Norwegian Antarctic Territory" the official name used by the Norway government for the three territories (Bouvet, Peter I, Queen Maud Land)? In either case it should be clearly noted if this is official designation or just grouping by someone (who? source?). Alinor (talk) 16:24, 22 July 2010 (UTC)
Name
[edit]I see an editor moved the article's name from "Norwegian Antarctic Territory" to "Norwegian Antarctic territories". While better, it does nonetheless not cover the fact that Bouvet Island is not in the Antarctic, but rather in the Subantarctic. A correct title for this article would then be either Norwegian Antarctic and Subantarctic territories, or Dependencies of Norway, given that the three territories in question are the only dependent territories of Norway. Arsenikk (talk) 10:17, 4 October 2010 (UTC)
- Dependencies of Norway sound good. Rettetast (talk) 21:35, 4 October 2010 (UTC)
overlap with List of possessions of Norway
[edit]See Talk:Administrative divisions of Norway and Talk:List_of_possessions_of_Norway#overlap_with_Dependencies_of_Norway. Alinor (talk) 07:43, 15 October 2010 (UTC)
- The issue was discussed at Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Norwegian Antarctic Territory (closed 11 days before the above comment) and there was consensus to keep a separate article on dependencies. Arsenikk (talk) 18:26, 24 January 2014 (UTC)
Incorrect area of Queen Maud Land
[edit]Either one (or both) of the specified areas is incorrect: 2.7kk square km is not equal to 1.7kk square miles, it's 1.04kk square miles (1 sq mile = 2.59 sq km). I've tried to pull the correct value out of source PDF, but couldn't find the info there.
