Lake Demorest
[edit]Anyone know if the lake is still there? Last I heard it was being drained. Of course, they drained it at least once while I was living there but they let it fill up again. This time I think the gov't was making them drain it. 98.235.143.13 (talk) 22:35, 8 April 2010 (UTC)
- Based on a decision between the city of Demorest and Piedmont College, the lake was drained and the dam was torn down. The area where the lake previously sat has now been turned into a wetlands area that is protected by the EPA. Read these for more info: [1] [2] [3]

History
[edit]Unless it's a quote, the phrase "Demorest was organized strictly for the white race" needs to be rewritten, and if it is a quote it needs to be identified as such. The same idea could be communicated in other ways, but that particular choice of words sounds like something lifted from a Klan rally.PurpleChez (talk) 00:01, 13 January 2011 (UTC)
- I agree. I looked up the alleged article that was sourced. The article is here: http://www.rootsweb.ancestry.com/~gahaber2/history/bassdemorest.htm I don't believe that it is a reliable source and the Wikipedia article was copied word-for-word from that article. I believe that we need to think about removing that entire section unless someone can re-write and find sources for it. What is your opinion? -- RandorXeus. 02:01, 13 January 2011 (UTC)
- I'd agree...it could at least use a change of tone. I lived in Demorest for several years but I'm afraid I don't have a lot of information.PurpleChez (talk) 04:02, 13 January 2011 (UTC)
- I live in Demorest now. I will look for books about the history of the area, but I'm going to go ahead and remove that block since it is a copy of the website. -- RandorXeus. 12:24, 13 January 2011 (UTC)
