[Within scholarly purview.]

As a disclaimer, some of the sources cited in this entry may appear to conflate the Demetrios Pepagomenos of history (i.e. 13th century) with the Demetrios Pepagomenos as depicted in Byzantine Greek satire (i.e. 15th century). Readers may assume that either both figures represent two separate historical individuals or that both figures represent the same person that lived for ~200 years (i.e. 13th-15th centuries). Please note that as far as the evidence is concerned, there appears to be only one Demetrios Pepagomenos who was historically a 13th century savant and was posthumously derided in a 15th century satire by Mazaris. Unless there is preponderant evidence to accurately falsify this assessment, it is best that the entry maintain the distinction between a historical figure and how he is portrayed in satirical literature. And as always, I appreciate any good faith edits made towards improving the quality of the entry. Thank you.
