How do you remove the Louisiana Map? It is not accurate to the current location (Chattanooga, TN) and has nothing to do with the article. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 216.153.167.242 (talk) 16:19, 26 May 2009 (UTC)[reply]

I added the info on the Betty Blake Lounge out of pers knowledge, but I would like to see more info on the person Betty Blake. It is fact that she served as president of the line, and was at the for front of getting the needed exemptions, but the rumors of what she did to get them are, if true, very interesting. My questions to the Delta Queen's onetime "Riverlorian" who actually worked with Ms Blake only got a smile.Jtmilesmmr 20:15, 6 September 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Photos needed

[edit]

More than one photo would be helpful. Interiors too. And photo in New Orleans location would be helpful. This is listed in the National Historic Landmark program as being located in New Orleans. Show us it is there (ever). doncram (talk) 17:20, 1 February 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Of the photos of exterior and interior in the NRHP photo set linked in the article, selected ones (but not all) were taken by NPS employee and those may arguably be in the public domain. doncram (talk) 17:41, 1 February 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Let me see if I have anymore Great Steamboat Race photos just of the Delta Queen.--Bedford 00:12, 2 February 2008 (UTC)[reply]
A photo of her current berth in Chattanooga would be very helpful. 67.86.75.96 (talk) 01:54, 25 January 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Made in Scottland?

[edit]
The hull, first two decks and steam engines were ordered in 1924 from the William Denny & Brothers shipyard on the River Leven adjoining the River Clyde at Dumbarton, Scotland. The Queen and her sister boat Delta King were shipped in pieces to Stockton, California in 1926. There the California Transportation Company assembled the two vessels..

According to ISBN 978-0964251359 only the hull was made (in pieces) in Scottland, shipped to California and assembled in Stockton, California. All decks and interior were built at the Stockton ship yard of the California Navigation & Improvement Company. Captndelta (talk) 07:50, 8 August 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Sacramento River vs. San Jaoquin

[edit]

Wouldn't the Sacramento to San Francisco excursions have been traversed on the Sacramento River and not the San Joaquin?

Panama Canal?

[edit]

Would it be accurate to cite the Panama Canal as a passage for that journey? Also, would "ocean trip" be the proper description for this passage?

"In 1946, Delta Queen was purchased by Greene Line Steamers of Cincinnati, Ohio and towed via the Panama Canal and the Mississippi and Ohio Rivers to be refurbished in Pittsburgh. On that ocean trip..." —Preceding unsigned comment added by Pie Shack (talkcontribs) 18:35, 15 November 2009 (UTC)[reply]

On that ocean trip she was piloted by Frederick Way Jr..

[edit]

According to "The Saga of the Delta Queen" by Frederick Way Jr., he did not pilot the the ocean trip.

Page 80: "I stood on the deck with a telegram in my pocket, positive orders not to accompany the boat."

Page 78: "The new captain of the Delta Queen was Capt. Frederick Geller, born in Germany, aged 43."

The maritime unions objected to the river men accompanying the Queen as it was towed. In order not to miss the good sailing weather the river men relented.

Way further wrote: Page 98: "stale vomit in eight of the staterooms indicated seasickness aboard, and I hope it was the engineers." (The union men) — Preceding unsigned comment added by 173.19.4.3 (talk) 16:19, 18 February 2012 (UTC)[reply]

STR Delta Queen

[edit]

Why is it named incorrectly in the article?

Delta Queen's current location

[edit]

I just used google maps to do a search of the Houma, LA area as I've been looking for the Delta Queen for multiple years. Houma is a complex region with multiple river based ship yards and many, many possible mooring locations. I do not find the Delta Queen in any obvious location there.

Admittedly, I'm concerned about loosing this valuable piece of American marine history. How can we verify the Delta Queen's location? Mdawes2 (talk) 22:27, 9 October 2024 (UTC)[reply]
