Question

[edit]

A probably stupid question: why expendable rockets do not reuse engines (probably by separating them from tank, parachuting/recovering/reusing them)? -- Denis Vlasenko

The cost of recovery often outweighs the savings throught re-use - NASA only save a couple of million by recycling Shuttle SRBs. --GW_SimulationsUser Page | Talk 22:11, 1 September 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Delta and National Space Vehicle Program

[edit]

How can the claim made in the origins section of the article, that Delta was listed in the Delta and National Space Vehicle Program report, be reconciled with the table of information at: http://history.nasa.gov/SP-4404/ch12-2.htm#t10 which doesn't mention Delta at all? Sdsds 04:01, 12 March 2007 (UTC)[reply]

  • That table lists "Proposed New Launch Vehicles" (emphasis added), but the National Space Vehicle Program report considered Delta to be "an interim general purpose vehicle" and, as far as that document was concerned, was a pre-existing vehicle rather than new (despite the fact that it had not yet flown). Therefore it was omitted from that table, but is described elsewhere in the complete document. Check out the summary at http://history.nasa.gov/SP-4407/vol4/cover.pdf page 94, which mentions Delta prior to its discussion of new vehicles. Kevin Forsyth 17:13, 26 September 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Thorad

[edit]

I'm not exactly sure where to put coverage of the "Thorad" design. My understanding is that these were Thor-Agena launch vehicles, not Thor-Deltas. But as compared with earlier Thor-Agena launches, they used the first stage developed by the Delta program. Is that correct? Is Thor-Agena the right place to cover them? Payload

[edit]

Any ideas on the payload of the Delta III and IV? —Preceding unsigned comment added by 128.208.6.49 (talk) 18:59, 20 September 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Human Rating Delta IV Heavy

[edit]

The article claims that the Delta IV Heavy is being human-rated. To my knowledge, the only ULA launch vehicle that is currently being human-rated is the Atlas V. If there is a reliable source that clearly demonstrates that human-rating is something ULA is going to do for the Delta IV, please add it. If not, I'll remove that section soon. --Abebenjoe (talk) 22:28, 31 January 2015 (UTC)[reply]
