Al-Nusra Front/Al Quada
[edit]There seems to be some differing opinions on whether it's Al-Quada or Al-Nusra that's involved here. The Guardian article refers to the organisation that Abu Khader is a member of as the Jabhat al Nusra (the Al Nusra Front)
"After the bombing, Abu Khuder split with the FSA and pledged allegiance to al-Qaida's organisation in Syria, the Jabhat al Nusra or Solidarity Front." - 14th paragraph
The full Arabic name of the Al-Nusra front is "jabhat al-nusra li-ahl al-sham," with the shorthand as "jabhat al-nusra"
The Al-Nusra Front wiki page even refers to the collusion between Al-Quada in Iraq & the Front
"Iraqi Foreign Minister Hoshyar Zebari said that al-Qaeda in Iraq members have gone to Syria, where the militants previously received support and weapons.[3] The al-Qaeda in Iraq members seem to be joining the al-Nusra Front, according to Zebari. [4]"
I'd therefore recommend that the infobox either refer solely to Al-Nusra under the Mujahideen category, or refer to both Al-Nusra and AQ in Iraq.

Al-Qaeda
[edit]"The Guardian's Ghaith Abdul-Ahad has met men in Deir el-Zour fighting for al-Qaida alongside the Free Syrian Army."
Clear enaugh. --Wustenfuchs 01:35, 6 August 2012 (UTC)
You know, EllsworthSK, take the problem to the talk page. You are currently edit warring. I think this sentence above says clearly who is fighting there in Dez-el Zor. --Wustenfuchs 15:50, 6 August 2012 (UTC)
- Why don´t you look a little bit above where you have everything explained by MrPenguin20? The members the journalist met are from al-Nusra, which according to this source is a branch of AQ (at least that is what I make of it). That can be very well used on their very own page, what could explain a thing or two, however he met members of one organization, not two. EllsworthSK (talk) 20:17, 6 August 2012 (UTC)
- We can add both, al-Nusra and al-Qaeda. The most optimal soulution. --Wustenfuchs 20:36, 6 August 2012 (UTC)
- To be honest I would simply edit the al-Nusra page and recognized them as branch of AQ. The Guardian article supports that. Than I would use them as reference for AQ in Syria. To be clear with my reasons - Al Queda in Iraq is popular name, but not official. Officially these folks are called Tanzim Qaidat al-Jihad fi Bilad al-Rafidayn, but they are Iraqi division of AQ Shura in Quetta, Pakistan. It seems to me that in similar manner jabhat al-nusra li-ahl al-sham is Syrian division of AQ. It would also make no need to have AQI there anymore, because you´d already have AQ represented in form of al-Nusra. EllsworthSK (talk) 21:00, 6 August 2012 (UTC)
I could be mistaken but I thought I had read on the syria page that you were arguing the contrary. --DanielUmel (talk) 21:05, 6 August 2012 (UTC)
- Nope. I was always arguing about AQI organization in Syria as no relevant documents can support that. I have nothing about including Jabhat al-Nusra as an ally, associate, linked to AQ. This Guardian source makes it clear. Not crystal clear, some analysis from some institutes would come in handy, but there are previous sources which supports that like for example [1] [2] [3] [4]
- And also this stuff is extremely shady. Few sources, many of them contradicting, not giving any clear picture about who is who. Trying to find out the truth in that mess is a killer. Now I don´t know where the heck the truth lies, it will take some serious analytic sources to figure that out and they are not here yet but it seems to me that many times when media talks about AQ, they talk about these chaps. And these chaps do not even try to hide how big buddies they are with AQ. EllsworthSK (talk) 21:20, 6 August 2012 (UTC)
Well, Wikipedia has a polocy called WP:COMMONNAME. To tell the truth, it's about article naming, but I think we should stick to it while refering to al-Nusra. Use their most common name, whatever it is. You can easly check that simply using google books and see the number of results. --Wustenfuchs 22:59, 6 August 2012 (UTC)
- Not really my point. Common name of Al-Nusra is Al-Nusra, no need to change much in that regard. What I am interested is their relation to Al Queda. EllsworthSK (talk) 08:24, 7 August 2012 (UTC)
Summary fights
[edit]Sources of the opposition: Yasser Sallouh, one of Free Army members, has been killed during armed conflicts with Syrian Army in al-Bukamal city of Deir Ezzor countryside.95.133.63.46 (talk) 16:22, 17 March 2013 (UTC)
Removed map of Deir Ezzor city
[edit]The map of Deir Ezzor city was removed because of copyright issues. However, I think that having a map for control of Deir Ezzor is a very good idea. I think someone should create another map, similar to the format of File:Battle_of_Aleppo_map.svg, which would avoid copyright issues (i don't know how to edit maps). There is information about the control of Deir Ezzor city in Cities and towns during the Syrian civil war#Deir ez-Zor. There is also a map for control of Deir Ezzor on the web (not RS). However, it could serve as a starting point, just like we did when we started the map for the Battle_of_Aleppo. I am sure more information can be found if we look for it… Tradediatalk 15:08, 8 April 2013 (UTC)
FSA control 75%!!!
[edit]When British Intelligence in London organized "activists and the observatory," it is normal for people to read this nonsense and propaganda!
Rashidiya , Jebaylah , Hamidiya , Old Airport , Assina'aa , Taab assinaa , Tahtohe , Harrabesh , Jaffra , military airport , Heart Hospital (3 km north of the military airport), Hawiqah , Uthmaniyah , Kenamat ... actually make up 75%, but guess what, it controls the regular army ! Complete part of the east bank of the Euphrates control regular army and why I did not mention these neighborhoods.
Even UK intelligence service through observatory says that fighting go in these neighborhoods (which I mentioned), and finally write a lie (75%)people believe in it! Simply have a look at the map. UK Observatory produces propaganda and at the same time SAA relieve Syria of al Qaeda jihadists and terrorists. All is good :) — Preceding unsigned comment added by Sirislanina (talk • contribs) 21:26, 20 July 2013 (UTC)
Unnecessary/factional information.
[edit]This particular line "A young man from the city of Deir Izzour was killed under torture in regime prisons today", which I consider unnecessary has absolutely nothing to do with the battle from a strategical point of view. There are various offenses commited by both sides, so the torture of a single man does not belong to the timeline section. Perhaps it should be moved to human rights abuses or just deleted from here. I suspect that the person who placed such an information in that particular place had factional interests. I request someone with good editing capabilities to review the article. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 188.237.122.122 (talk) 14:09, 22 August 2013 (UTC)
Map
[edit]Clashes broke out after midnight between rebel and regular forces in the al-Rasafa neighbourhood, along with rehime bombardment with mortar shells on areas of the al-Kanamat neighbourhood which led to several injuries and house damages. Rebel fighters targeted the al-Jamiyan checkpoint of al-Sina'a neighbourhood at dawn with several mortar shells.https://www.facebook.com/syriaohr/posts/418232874951723 — Preceding unsigned comment added by 37.52.27.102 (talk) 15:38, 9 September 2013 (UTC)
Rebel advances toward Brigade Base 137
[edit]It appears that the map on this page needs to be updated. In these YouTube and Liveleak videos posted in mid-December, it appears that the rebels have made some advances, moving closer to the 137 Brigade Base (up to the Army Fueling Base) and also towards the airport. In the Wikimapia links (embededded in the Yallashouriya site), it appears that some of the features in these videos have been geolocated to areas previously listed as under government control. http://yallasouriya.wordpress.com/tag/deir-ezzor/page/2/ The captured checkpoint featured here http://www.liveleak.com/view?i=992_1387589248 appears to be part of this Army Refueling Base. http://wikimapia.org/#lang=en&lat=35.321393&lon=40.065722&z=16&m=b&search=jafra Hulahoop122 (talk) 07:38, 22 December 2013 (UTC)
Al-Masdar News Reliability
[edit]The fact that the majority of updates regarding movements in Deir Ezzor are being sourced from Al-Masdar News concerns me. Though I think the consensus is that the SAA are progressing in DeZ, Al-Masdar's reports are heavily exaggerated, especially their reports of Daesh casualties, which simply don't add up. Moreover, Al-Masdar appears to be the personal website of one Leith Abu Fadel, who is unabashedly pro-Assad. I don't object to this, but I would prefer to see a wider range of references, and to refrain from blindly reporting figures which are obviously agitprop. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Completelyanon (talk • contribs) 20:52, 31 October 2014 (UTC)
New map? Old map?
[edit]Should the map be updated to this one? The other map its important but outdated its from February 2014. We should use this one or at least move the old one to the Section regarding events on that Time.
