Merge proposal

[edit]

It has been proposed that this article, Dehesa (pastoral management), be merged into Common land. Please see Talk:Common land#Proposed merge. Richard New Forest (talk) 09:43, 5 May 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Move to Montado

[edit]

This legally protected ecosystem, called pt:Montado in Portugal, amounts to 21% of our forested area. It holds 33% of the world's Cork Oak where over 50% of the world's cork is produced. It makes no sense to use some strange spanish word. And it's not a "commons", it's the private property of cork producers! The article on the portuguese wikipedia is huge and detailed if anyone wants to translate it. eggy (talk) 21:14, 13 May 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Use of italics

[edit]

If I read the guidance correctly at WP:ITALICS, dehesa, montado, and other non-English words used throughout this article (including in the title) should be italicized. Thanks, DA Sonnenfeld (talk) 11:33, 6 December 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Requested move 19 October 2015

[edit]
The following is a closed discussion of a requested move. Please do not modify it. Subsequent comments should be made in a new section on the talk page. Editors desiring to contest the closing decision should consider a move review. No further edits should be made to this section.

The result of the move request was: moved to Dehesa, dab page moved to Dehesa (disambiguation). Unfortunately this RM hasn't had a high turnout and there were reasonable arguments both in favour and against "Montado" so I can't say there was a consensus to move it to that title. However, there was a clear agreement that "Dehesa" would be better than the present title. No prejudice against future discussion with "Montado" again as the proposed title or to SmokeyJoe's suggestion of "Agrosilvopasture". Jenks24 (talk) 13:40, 6 November 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Dehesa (pastoral management)Montado – Portuguese term montado seems to be somewhat more common in English literature (see below) than Spanish dehesa. It also has an advantage of being unambiguous, so WP:NATURALDIS applies: "Using an alternative name that the subject is also commonly called in English reliable sources, albeit not as commonly as the preferred-but-ambiguous title" No such user (talk) 07:37, 19 October 2015 (UTC) Relisted. Extended evidence: it is difficult to construct a Google test for frequency of montado and dehesa in English, a both are relatively obscure and ambiguous. Many English WP:RS use both, particularly when analysing them from non-country-specific point of view. Here's my research:

Even if we don't find a consensus for the proposed move, I would suggest moving Dehesa (pastoral management)Dehesa. All other items on the dab page are WP:PTM and/or pretty obscure. No such user (talk) 09:00, 19 October 2015 (UTC)[reply]

  • Oppose Dehesa (pastoral management)Montado per the same principle of WP:ENGVAR and WP:RETAIN. If the article began with Spanish terms, don't change them to Portuguese without very good reason.
Support Dehesa (pastoral management)Dehesa. Other uses are derivative.
Sounds like it could be called Agrosilvopasture, and has overlap with Silvopasture. --SmokeyJoe (talk) 06:29, 27 October 2015 (UTC)[reply]

The above discussion is preserved as an archive of a requested move. Please do not modify it. Subsequent comments should be made in a new section on this talk page or in a move review. No further edits should be made to this section.

Needs more cited info

Thanks for contributing to Talk:Agroforestry#Merge proposal

If I understood right you were against merging this article but now that I have deleted uncited info it is rather small - perhaps you would like to expand it
