[edit]

During King Philip's (or Metacomet's) War, Natick Praying Indians were sent to Deer Island. However, the missionary John Eliot and the guardian Daniel Gookin tried to prevent having them sent. The article suggests that Eliot was to blame, which he is not. In any case, the forced internment was devastating to the Naticks and the Indian Plantation never really recovered. Deer Island is considered a sacred site by today's Praying Indian communities. Jennifer Hance, Director, Natick Historical Society 72.93.184.170 (talk) 15:14, 8 March 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Jurisdiction

[edit]

Territorial jurisdiction between Boston and Winthrop on the island is unclear; does anyone have an authoritative reference to document this? -- Beland (talk) 13:53, 24 August 2010 (UTC)[reply]
