Box office
[edit]The box office section of this film was attempting to draw conclusions based on very incomplete information. I have removed this wild speculation and dubious calculations.[2] (and infobox totals too).
It is difficult to make any claims about profitability at the best of time because of Hollywood accounting but impossible without sufficient information, and the table if full of gaps. One of the biggest gaps is that the budget for Deep Blue Sea 2 is unknown. A generic article saying that micro-budget films have budgets of about $2 million is not a suitable source,[3] it makes no mention whatsoever of Deep Blue Sea. Even then such a rough estimate is no basis for making further calculations. So, so, so, deeply wrong. -- 109.79.86.10 (talk) 02:06, 10 July 2020 (UTC)
- User:DisneyMetalhead again added some very dodgy and dubious numbers to the table.[4] Any attempt to calculate profit or loss totals is meaningless without proper budget figures. Even if the table was not missing information and generally full of holes, and even in the best any such totals would still be misleading because films also spend money on marketing and other costs (P&A). -- 109.79.76.202 (talk) 01:48, 29 December 2020 (UTC)
@Special:Contributions/109.79.76.202 - the article is an overall analysis of the film series. The table's purpose is to take a look at the overall income of the series. The symbols used (>, <, etc) are to demonstrate that the available information is incomplete. Because the sequels are straight-to-video, they will not have box office income. They do however have video sales and rental statistics. This information is constructive for the article, as it gives the reader an overall idea of the profits for which the individual films have accumulated. Cheers m8!--DisneyMetalhead (talk) 18:42, 29 December 2020 (UTC)
- The information is incomplete, the sources are not good enough. I almost admire your optimism trying to make something out of nothing but there are too many gaps, it is misleading. Any attempt to calculate a "profits" column is a castle built on sand, assumptions piled upon assumptions, based on incomplete information. It is bad idea to try and draw any conclusions about profits from such limited information. Even if the table was full, the complexities and lies of Hollywood accounting mean that it would need to be treated with skepticism.
- What ever it is you are trying to say with a table, try instead to say it with WP:PROSE. -- 109.79.65.133 (talk) 20:45, 29 December 2020 (UTC)
