Summary

[edit]

I edited the summary to correct two mistakes. (1) Decompression stops do not "eliminate" the risk of decompression sickness - they reduce or control it. (2) Except in the most extreme cases (eg. explosive decompression), decompression sickness does not occur "during" a dive - it occurs on or after surfacing - often several hours after. These facts can be found in any basic SCUBA diving manual. TC 203.122.223.121 (talk) 05:29, 21 November 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Decompression sickness can occur during decompression. Decompression is part of the dive, so it can, and in rare cases does occur during the dive. This may not be mentioned in all basic scuba manuals. • • • Peter (Southwood) (talk): 10:51, 3 July 2016 (UTC)[reply]
[edit]

I made this edit in 2008 to the "Category:Decompression algorithms" which was later moved to this article. This was text I had created with the help of David Doolette to describe decompression models for a project that has since been removed from our web site. We are about to use the text again in a re-write of our web site later this month but I anticipate that someone may come along and question the source and verbatim use of this text at some point. I did not know enough to anticipate the issue when I first posted this text but now that I am a little more experienced here, I want to stay ahead of the game. I have no problem with the use since I am the author. Thanks! --Gene Hobbs (talk) 14:42, 3 September 2011 (UTC)[reply]

I might as well mention it here, Gene, so others might follow suit, but I now tend to make my websites compliant with CC-BY-SA, rather than © me or the writer, just in case someone wants to re-use the content. It also allows you to add the text to Wikipedia without going through the OTRS system, since it's already using a compatible free licence, and it's just as useful for images that I put on my sites as well. --RexxS (talk) 01:57, 4 September 2011 (UTC)[reply]
