Notability
[edit]Since the notability of this article still seems to be in question, I feel I should point out that he is the central figure in a rather large scandal getting press all over the world (outside the U.S.) right now[1]. His long-term notability at this point is unknown, but I felt it was important to have something up for now in the hopes that it will improve over time. I fear that editing the entry to emphasize the reasons why he is notable even more than it already does would significantly compromise the quality of the article. In terms of improving the article: I can probably find information on his early career as an actor, his career in journalism, his academic career, and much more detail about the new book, the allegations made, and the scandal around it. Can someone with more experience with wikipedia give me some guidance about how much detail would be good and what length of the article would be appropriate? For instance, a few years ago he became a bit of a controversial figure in his religious community (Quakers) for some of his writings, but I don't really know if that's important enough to include. 14:56, 1 September 2008 (UTC)Therocketcat (talk)
- So far, none of your sources have even shown that there is some big controversy. Linking to HIS articles does not show that HE is in the middle of a controversy, nor that he is somehow an expert or anything.-- AnmaFinotera (talk · contribs) 15:18, 1 September 2008 (UTC)
- I am satisfied that the involvement in the match-fixing controversy and the awards noted in references 4 and 5 are sufficient to prove notability. I am removing the tag, but will not object if someone re-adds it.
- To Therocketcat, look around at other biographies. Some information on his earlier life is welcome, but excessive personal information or unsourced negative allegations may run foul of WP:BLP. So far, the article is fine and can be expanded. Buki ben Yogli (talk) 20:07, 7 September 2008 (UTC)
