Elevation

[edit]

The elevation of 2235 meters cannot be correct (that's approximatively the elevation of Gondar, but Debarq is much higher... and colder). My two travel guides give 3020 and 3100 meters, respectively. --62.203.92.192 (talk) 18:46, 28 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]

2235 meters was one of the 4 values I found in the source cited at the Nordic Africa Institute website; the others are 2848, 2908 & 3020. Since I have no way of determining which of these three was the most likely value, I added the one that best matched the latitude & longitude I had for the town, & noted the discrepancy in the footnote. Sadly, for all of the efforts of its specialists, the geographical datum of Ethiopia is still not as accurate as in other countries. -- llywrch (talk) 07:22, 29 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]
I have been to Debarq some years ago, and I am very sure that the value in the article (2235 meters) is wrong... but I can't say which one out of the other 3 is right, so I propose a wording like "approximately 3000 meters" and to keep the footnote. --81.62.108.29 (talk) 23:34, 1 February 2008 (UTC)[reply]

i erased the following paragraph untill someone fixes the mistaken numbers
"Based on figures from the Central Statistical Agency, in 2005 Debarq has an estimated total population of 74,997, of whom 31,850 were males and 33,147 were females.[1] [dubiousdiscuss]The 1994 census reported this town had a total population of 24,474 of whom 6,235 were males and 8,239 were females. [dubiousdiscuss]"

An anonymous editor mangled the numbers. Restored from a previous good version while holding an 18-month old full of chocolate on my lap. -- llywrch (talk) 18:44, 14 February 2016 (UTC)[reply]
