James Earl Jones
[edit]September 9, James Earl Jones: please update to read EGOT winner in place of 'Tony winner'. Cheers! Shir-El too 09:01, 15 September 2024 (UTC)
- Jones has an Honorary Academy Award, so it is not universally accepted that he is a true EGOT winner. WWGB (talk) 10:17, 15 September 2024 (UTC)
- HE RECEIVED it. WP must align with FACTS - not bend over backwards to play Caesar's wife. ALL obituary notices I've come across have included the 'EGOT' listing. At the least ADD it to the line! "Mr. Jones collected Tonys, Golden Globes, Emmys, Kennedy Center honors and an honorary Academy Award."[1] Cheers! Shir-El too 12:32, 15 September 2024 (UTC)
- You get nowhere by SHOUTING (and then becoming "chummy" afterwards). I'd practice your technique in civility if I was you. If an honorary Academy Award does not qualify as part of an EGOT, quoting as many other independent sources as you like cannot change that fact. Thanks. Ref (chew)(do) 14:56, 15 September 2024 (UTC)
- EGOT is more a status than a physical award anyway. Rusted AutoParts 19:39, 15 September 2024 (UTC)

Marcellus Williams
[edit]Entry for Marcellus Williams, 55, American executed by lethal injection on Sept. 24, 2024 by the State of Missouri. See: Murder of Felicia Gayle
Sorry if this is the wrong place to ask for this. I was going to add it, but don't have that authority yet. A Google search will bring up articles from top news sources (Washington Post, AP, CBS, etc.) Wolfohfficial (talk) 12:02, 25 September 2024 (UTC)
- I don't think he should be added. Williams "article" is merely a redirect to the Gayle murder article. He never had an article during the aftermath of the crime, or his trial. I don't see how his execution now makes him notable. The "one month" rule only applies when someone (or something) is sufficiently notable to have their own article. Williams does not tick that box. Execution does not take him over the line to become notable. WP:ONEEVENT applies here. WWGB (talk) 12:10, 25 September 2024 (UTC)
- I agree with WWGB on this. And please note he has already been added and removed once. Surely the correct notability establishment arising from an event redirect would concern that of the subject/victim of the crime (in this case, Felicia Gayle), and not the perpetrator of the one crime reported at Murder of Felicia Gayle? Thanks. Ref (chew)(do) 14:12, 25 September 2024 (UTC)
- Aren't executed criminals normally added as a matter of course?...I would say that Williams is more notable than the listed Travis James Mullis because of the greater controversy over his execution.71.105.190.91 (talk) 06:05, 26 September 2024 (UTC)
- I would actually say BOTH are non-notable under WP:ONEEVENT and therefore both might be discarded. There then remains the question of notoriety, which seems to play a big part in the thinking of editors here. A question I can't neutrally answer. Ref (chew)(do) 06:54, 26 September 2024 (UTC)
