Is Michael White being the subject of a documentary notable to him overall?
[edit]Entry in question: *Michael White, 80, Scottish film and theatre producer (Monty Python and the Holy Grail, The Rocky Horror Picture Show), Tony winner (1971), subject of The Last Impresario, heart failure.[1]
A discussion had between myself and Sunnydoo on our talk pages:
And more to the point...people under 30 probably have no idea who or how important Michael White was to the stage and cinema both. The reason why I am putting him in as Subject matter of the Last Impresario is because he was the subject of that film which was done in 2013. Millennials will have the chance to be familiar with him through that vehicle. All of his other listed credits occurred in the 1970s and they wouldnt be able to wrap their heads around that.
Furthermore, we often list muses and other biography credits for both songs and films in the Notability section. It has been done several times over the last few years, albeit that it is a more European idea than American. But it is true regardless. And before you say it isnt mentioned in his article, his article has already been flagged to be completely re-written for Wiki on his Talk page. Cheers.Sunnydoo (talk) 02:35, 10 March 2016 (UTC)
- Agree to disagree, him being a subject of a film isn't what makes him notable. Not gonna add "subject of American Crime Story" to O. J. Simpson just because its about him. Same with Gandhi, same with W., Tyson, etc. It's uneeded fluff that doesn't have barrings on who he was as a person. Rusted AutoParts 04:58, 10 March 2016 (UTC)
- 3 of the 4 arent dead yet, so not going to speculate on what their entries will look like. Gandhi was assassinated in 1948, the film wasnt made until 1982.Sunnydoo (talk) 18:23, 10 March 2016 (UTC)
- Wasn't asking you to speculate. Does this website not know the meaning of the word example? Rusted AutoParts 18:34, 10 March 2016 (UTC)

- Also, calling young people millenials and staying they "can't wrap their heads around" things is unfair and frankly...a bit old of you to say. He might be some sort of hero of yours, but I nor do I imagine Wikipedia give a shit. Unless it's all he's known for (Tony winning producer, so I doubt that), it shouldn't be included. "Millenials" should be able to wrap this head around the concept of clicking on his article to read up about him. Rusted AutoParts 04:59, 10 March 2016 (UTC)
- That is exactly what I am talking about and thank you for proving my point. In Cinema during the late 60s and early 70s, there were 3 movies that really pushed the envelope and made movies what they are today. They are all anti-establishment pieces that were enormously difficult to get financing for and to get made...in order- Easy Rider, The Rocky Horror Picture Show and Blazing Saddles. Each of them for various reasons challenged the "established" Hollywood thinking at the time. Richard Pryor didnt get to play the part he wrote for himself in Blazing Saddles because of it. The crack on Millennials is that they think they know everything because of a smart phone. They dont. Experience and understanding still are the basis of knowledge. Having this movie done in 2013 should give them some understanding of the man and his contribution to the film genre.Sunnydoo (talk) 18:17, 10 March 2016 (UTC)
- This proves your point as to who him being the subject of a movie is notable to his overall career how exactly? Lemmy had a documentary made about him, it's not included on his death entry. As I said it's unnecessary fluff that I believe should be removed. Rusted AutoParts 18:34, 10 March 2016 (UTC)

- Excellent point. Lemmy's entry in Dec has been updated to reflect the movie.Sunnydoo (talk) 18:46, 10 March 2016 (UTC)Sunnydoo (talk) 18:48, 10 March 2016 (UTC)
- I will also say that Lemmy is another great example. Many of the kids that are around today dont have a firm grip or understanding how revolutionary and groundbreaking his work (et al) were to the genre. This kind of major biopic or documentary with the artist still living allows the unfamiliar and the young an opportunity to revisit what made them great in their career. And just like with Michael White, the picture done in later years of their life was done years after their initial success and otherwise listed credits would have been done. Which is why it deserves mention in the notability line. I would also like to point out that you would like to have a entire expanse for one's career included which this also accomplishes...their final notable work if you will.Sunnydoo (talk) 18:51, 10 March 2016 (UTC)
- Being the subject of a documentary is not what makes someone notable. Stop using the "millenials don't know excuse", it's not a valid point. Considering a man of Lemmy's name and stature, I'm sure a fair amount of people know who he was, and if not, it's just as simple as typing in his name to google. Being the subject of a documentary is not as notable as his work with Motorhead, and its the same for White. Rusted AutoParts 19:04, 10 March 2016 (UTC)
- But it covers his career in retrospect and has stars like John Cleese, Naomi Watts, Kate Moss, Rachel Ward, Yoko Ono, Barry Humphries, Wallace Shawn, Andre Gregory, John Waters, Jim Sharman, Peter Richardson (British Director), Nigel Planer, Nell Campbell, Lorne Michaels, Jeremy Thomas, Jean-Jacques Lebel, Brian Thomson, Anna Wintour, and Lyndall Hobbs in Michael White's case tell you why they are notable in their words. This would be just like an Academy Award, etc., because it is their peerage that is telling you that information. And its just not millennials that I am talking about. There are many people who like rock and roll that wouldnt be familiar with Lemmy and his contribution to metal as it was probably outside of their comfort zone.Sunnydoo (talk) 19:10, 10 March 2016 (UTC)
- I don't care who's in it, how does that prove your point? All entries on the death lists should reflect what best establishes them as a notable person. Being in a documentary doesn't cut that (unless its the absolute only thing that makes them notable). Do we act that for everyone who ever appears in a documentary? Should we add Where in the World is Osama bin Laden? to bin Laden's entry? Rusted AutoParts 19:13, 10 March 2016 (UTC)

- That is not a biopic, that is a comedy or rather a comedic take on the search to find him....clearly not the same thing.Sunnydoo (talk) 19:17, 10 March 2016 (UTC)
- According to Wikipedia (us), Where in the World Is Osama Bin Laden? is a 2008 documentary film. No mention of it being a comedy, or a satire. And bin Laden's the focus point of it, so it's the exact same thing. Rusted AutoParts 19:19, 10 March 2016 (UTC)
Moonie, 18...if any film buffs or animal nuts would like to create an article
[edit]Moonie age 18 has passed away. Who is Moonie? Moonie is known to fans of Legally Blonde as Bruiser, the chihuahua Reese Witherspoon toted through out the movie and gave way to the chic purse dog fad furthered by our dear friend Paris Hilton, et al (that is tongue in cheek since the internet does not translate sarcasm very well i am told).
In order to be included on our list, he will need an article before entry as I am informed by the powers that be. So have it you crazy Wiki maniacs out there. Here is your start- [2] [3]
Sunnydoo (talk) 19:31, 11 March 2016 (UTC)
- Yes, I think it is a ridiculous rule especially since he has his own IMDB page [4] and is being picked up globally by major news outlets.Sunnydoo (talk) 19:40, 11 March 2016 (UTC)
- It was in one movie. Why should that make the dog notable since it was in nothing since and wasn't culturally relevant again until it died. Rusted AutoParts 21:28, 12 March 2016 (UTC)
- 227 newspaper articles and counting. [5] Seems kind of foolish saying that it was no big deal especially since it made the entertainment headlines on 5 different continents so far. People like Reese Witherspoon and that movie for some reason. (And those are just the English articles...many more in Spanish out there too). Sunnydoo (talk) 21:50, 12 March 2016 (UTC)
- And? Again, the dog wasn't relevant in anyway since that movie until yesterday when it died. One day of buzz doesn't make 15 years of being obscure moot. It's not notable. Rusted AutoParts 21:59, 12 March 2016 (UTC)

Keith Emerson
[edit]Sadly, Keith Emerson passed away last night at 71. It was announced both in the British press in the last hour as well as on ELP's Official Facebook page. His article here on Wikipedia has been updated to reflect his passing on March 10: https://wiki.riteme.site/wiki/Keith_Emerson — Preceding unsigned comment added by 141.202.54.2 (talk) 20:10, 11 March 2016 (UTC)

- The associated source, Rolling Stone, states that he died Friday (which is the 11th). In order to move the date to the 10th the source will need to be updated. BBC is not reporting yet and I couldn't find a more reliable source than Rolling Stone.--Jezebel's Ponyobons mots 20:31, 11 March 2016 (UTC)
- Rolling Stone has now updated their story and the death date and the accompanying source now match.--Jezebel's Ponyobons mots 20:34, 11 March 2016 (UTC)
- Another update. Billboard now has a CoD of gunshot and it is being investigated as a Suicide. However as you can imagine that is a touchy subject so we will let the ME rule before we make that distinction. It also has March 10th as the DoD.Sunnydoo (talk) 23:17, 11 March 2016 (UTC)
- I originally read your sentence as "so we will let ME rule before we make that distinction." A little levity in a sad situation.--Jezebel's Ponyobons mots 23:25, 11 March 2016 (UTC)
- LOL ya it is an unfortunate acronym, which is one reason why some folks still use the term Coroner. Medical Examiner sounds all sciencey though.Sunnydoo (talk) 23:37, 11 March 2016 (UTC)
- You may be alarmed to learn that the English, 'some folks' who still use that language, continue to name those types of medical examiner as Coroners. RIP Keith. - Derek R Bullamore (talk) 00:14, 12 March 2016 (UTC)
- Its just not the British. There are plenty of places in the US that still use the term coroner and coroner's office. Different jurisdictions even have different level of investigative powers. And lets not even get started on the State of Louisiana in all of this, where Coroner's actually have power over the living and just not the dead. And of course our entire government system is happy being all too dysfunctional at the moment to want to come together to unify and make it less confusing. I could just imagine the seizure half of the GOP would have if the CDC or Surgeon General finally put their foot down.Sunnydoo (talk) 01:04, 12 March 2016 (UTC)

Robert Horton
[edit]The only place reporting his death is a website called Western Clippings.[6] They do not state their source and all they have is a sentence stating "Robert Horton, 91, star of "Wagon Train" and "A Man Called Shenandoah", died of natural causes, March 9 at a rehab center in L.A."
Is this considered a reliable source? I would think that there would need to be some confirmation by a reputable news source before he is listed. BurienBomber (talk) 16:35, 14 March 2016 (UTC)
- No worries, found him on Legacy. Rusted AutoParts 01:04, 15 March 2016 (UTC)

March 15th; Rod Durham "Death from Diabetic Shock"
[edit]I read the article in reference to this man's death, and there is nothing definitive on how he died- There's no autopsy noted etc-can someone correct this? Per People magzine-cause of death was not determined.
people.com/article/rod-durham-dead-extreme-weight-loss-contestant-dies-52
Most of the 'news' links are celebrity gossip ezines etc. The link that was included on this 'Recent Deaths' list, actually states his friends believe it was diabetic shock and his sister,a heart attack. The reason I looked at the referenced link was I saw he died of 'diabetic shock' at age 52-I am 51 and diabetic for over 30+years so I was interested in his story, which wasn't corroberated by wikipedia's standards. So annoyed, and unable to change it-please update. thanks 69.249.125.97 (talk) 02:02, 16 March 2016 (UTC) BrattySoul
- Removed COD altogether until further confirmation. — Wyliepedia 09:15, 16 March 2016 (UTC)
And yet again--Garry Shandling died of a heart attack and there is no official cause of death in the link provided!!
What gives? Must someone gripe about these things in order to 'fix' them?

Ralph David Abernathy III
[edit]I started an article about Ralph David Abernathy III who served in the Georgia General Assembly and is notable. It was a redirect to the article about his father Ralph Abernathy. My apologies for any problems-thank you-RFD (talk) 22:23, 17 March 2016 (UTC)
- Article looks good as usual. Thank you for taking care of that. There are some strange redirects sometimes, glad it got handled.Sunnydoo (talk) 17:19, 18 March 2016 (UTC)
