His article has had a death date of 8 June added to the lead today, but there is nothing else in his article indicating his death. Is he dead? 188.28.34.86 (talk) 14:39, 11 June 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Somali police are reporting his death, and the major news outlets are picking it up now. Reputable sources relaying the report include The Irish Times and Le Monde, although I haven't seen confirmation of the June 8th date. --Jezebel'sPonyobons mots 14:51, 11 June 2011 (UTC)[reply]
The CNN source we're using says "late Wednesday", the BBC report says "overnight Tuesday",so it doesn't seem very clear yet re: dates. I'm going to change the listed nationality though, he was born in Comoros and held both Comorian and Kenyan citizenship, I'd say Comorian is the one to go for based on that. Betty Fox

[edit]

Does this person meet the notability guidelines? Her [s]daughter son may be notable, but that doesn't mean she should be on the deaths page, right?SuperAtheist (talk) 21:23, 17 June 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Wow, her son is world famous, and she is reputable she carried the Olympic flag into the Opening ceremony of the Winter Olympics last year etc. Intoronto1125TalkContributions 21:32, 17 June 2011 (UTC)[reply]
Is that really notable enough for a wikipedia entry though? If she isn't notable enough for an article (and I doubt that even 30 days from now there will be one), then why is she notable enough here? Is every Olympic flag carrier's death worthy of mention? These questions sound flippant, and I don't mean them that way. Damn I wish you could get tone across better online lolSuperAtheist (talk) 21:50, 17 June 2011 (UTC)[reply]
Google Betty fox see what you come up with. Intoronto1125TalkContributions 21:58, 17 June 2011 (UTC)[reply]
My vote is that she is notable enough - her death has united Canadians in grief unlike anything felt for many years. She may have been referenced mainly in her son's shadow, but her own contributions to the cause of cancer research can not be denied. We include the deaths of players of sports which few people have heard of, or of small-time television actors. An individual who is mourned by an entire nation both for her relationship to a national hero and for her own contribution surely qualifies. 67.204.12.117 (talk) 07:00, 18 June 2011 (UTC)[reply]
If she has her own article (not a redirect) within one month, she stays. Otherwise, DEL. WWGB (talk) 08:31, 18 June 2011 (UTC)[reply]
Many people are listed without an article, and never get one. Intoronto1125TalkContributions 15:44, 18 June 2011 (UTC)[reply]
Yep, and are deleted after one month! But the great thing about this page is that a lot of people spot redlinks who are notable, and start stubs. The problem here is that someone's created the redirect to Terry Fox, so it's a lot more unlikely that someone will create a separate article. That'd be a shame, as I'd say her charity work is notable enough for a WP entry. EJBH (talk) 23:17, 18 June 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Simon Brint

[edit]

At the moment Simon Brint is listed on 20 June, having been widely reported this evening. However the sad news of his death was tweeted by Lenny Henry on the evening of 14 June, so it seems likely that his date of death was somewhat earlier. Sam Blacketer (talk) 20:43, 20 June 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Confirmed (by looking at the link), and the reference on the list at http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/entertainment-arts-13845248 doesn't state a date and has just been reported today, so it is safe to assume that the date can be changed. However, is twitter reliable enough, that's the question. And contacting his agent, Maureen Vincent, would be considered research and again not a reliable source, although she would be most likely the person who would know for sure. I would say change it to 14th, I can't find anything else corroborating either date. 87.194.86.204 (talk) 00:34, 21 June 2011 (UTC)[reply]
This message (not reliable, I know) actually suggests that he died in late May. Ghmyrtle (talk) 08:21, 21 June 2011 (UTC)[reply]
It seems from this article that he died on 11 June. WWGB (talk) 11:06, 21 June 2011 (UTC)[reply]
I agree that's the best we're going to get, and see we've already gone with it :-) 87.194.86.204 (talk) 11:44, 21 June 2011 (UTC)[reply]
We now have a reliable obit here, giving his date of death as 29 May. I've made the changes to this list, and will have now put a brief bio article together. Ghmyrtle (talk) 16:23, 28 June 2011 (UTC)[reply]
This reference also states that he committed suicide ("taken his own life") so if it hasn't already been done it might be worth adding that to the line. I've added notes into his talk page so people can decide whether or not to include it. 87.194.86.204 (talk) 22:02, 29 June 2011 (UTC)[reply]

So why is he still in twice under both dates (29 May and 11 June?) — Preceding unsigned comment added by 86.132.196.216 (talk) 19:28, 28 June 2011 (UTC)[reply]

I removed him from 11 June. Are you looking at a cached version? Ghmyrtle (talk) 19:35, 28 June 2011 (UTC)[reply]
