Deaths requiring reliable sources for inclusion in article
[edit]Better sources needed (please supply a media source for claim)
- January 1 – Michael Loewe, 102, British historian (sourced here, a site with dubious reliability)
Czechoslovakia
[edit]@Huferpad: and @Noel baran:, you have both changed the entry for Ján Zachara to say "Slovak" rather than Czechoslovak. As the top of the page says, entries are supposed to be listed by country of citizenship at birth
. Please do not remove the mention of Czechoslovakia, Zachara was not born in the modern state of Slovakia. Di (they-them) (talk) 20:55, 2 January 2025 (UTC)
- That remark means that if, say, a German person was born as French, he will be listed as French-born German and not just German; it does not mean that the country of citizenship at birth is listed as it was if it changes status or name. You can see in the January page alone there already are 4 other entries (and countless more in the previous years pages) that are listed as Russian, Ukrainian and Slovenian instead of Soviet, Soviet and Jugoslav. I agree that the remark may be phrased in a confusing way but it's made clearer by the following entry, which says "subsequent nationality", so in Zachara's case it should at least be Czechoslovak-born Slovak. However, by consensus, we never list that in such way when the subsequent country is a successor state of the previous one (i.e., we don't say Soviet-born Russian or Jugoslav-born Slovenian but just Russian and Slovenian). • Huferpad talk 21:23, 2 January 2025 (UTC)
- Czechoslovakia is not generally used for demonyms in the modern day because Czechoslovakia does not exist in the modern day. The constituent former states (now countries) do, so that's what is generally used and accepted for use. Ref (chew)(do) 23:00, 2 January 2025 (UTC)
This issue has been raised before... and to reiterate once more... The stated policy of including "citizenship at birth" is at variance with the enforced policy of ignoring formerly-extant citizenships.
There is clearly a need to change either one or the other so that they both match!! 108.41.55.190 (talk) 21:38, 3 January 2025 (UTC)
Oldest Person Dies
[edit]Tomiko Itooka is dead at 116 so that means that she should be added on the page 2.28.107.151 (talk) 22:49, 4 January 2025 (UTC)
- Died on December 29, 2024. She's listed there. Rusted AutoParts 22:54, 4 January 2025 (UTC)
- Okay 2.28.107.151 (talk) 09:32, 5 January 2025 (UTC)
- Okay 2.28.107.151 (talk) 09:33, 5 January 2025 (UTC)
- Sorry accidentally copied the message 2.28.107.151 (talk) 09:33, 5 January 2025 (UTC)
Order
[edit]Surely the list should start with 1 January, 2 January and so on not 5 January, 4 January... SimplyLouis27 (talk) 00:00, 5 January 2025 (UTC)
- And so, with 29 days gone for example, you want to scroll all the way down to the bottom of the page to find out who died on the 30th? It's in reverse order so that the latest deaths on the latest day appear immediately the page is opened, at the top. Ref (chew)(do) 00:21, 5 January 2025 (UTC)
after.io
[edit]The source for Noreen Riols (died 2 January) is hosted at after.io, which seems to be an unmoderated website, similar to findagrave. I think we need a better, reliable source. WWGB (talk) 04:26, 5 January 2025 (UTC)
- Re-added to list at top of page. Ref (chew)(do) 08:44, 5 January 2025 (UTC)
Michael Loewe on Forevermissed.com seems to be a similar case, also an unmoderated website. If proven to be false, an intentional forgery can be suspected in both cases, probably by the same person.--84.176.226.60 (talk) 10:45, 5 January 2025 (UTC)
- Loewe added to top of this page and entry tagged. Both death entries should probably be removed until better sources emerge. WWGB (talk) 11:10, 5 January 2025 (UTC)
- Not a better source, but this social media post by another faculty member at Cambridge (his alma mater/work institution) makes reference to his death, so news of his death is likely accurate: [2] [3]. I suspect that the news section for Clare Hall is somewhere to watch for an official announcement.c Connormah (talk) 18:11, 5 January 2025 (UTC)
This issue with Forever Missed obviously goes deeper - so far I have posted Better Source tags back to January 2022. It's amazing how many times the site has been passed as reliable previously. Ref (chew)(do) 22:27, 5 January 2025 (UTC)
- The January 2022 case Arnold Modell is probably still alive and even on his (presumably forged) Forever Missed page the death date and place were removed. See archived page vs. the current one.--2A02:8071:7940:9B60:E9A1:E109:B7CE:5B2 (talk) 00:57, 6 January 2025 (UTC)
- I think he's actually deceased, this source just shows his death year which is 2022 and if he was alive, there would definitely be a recent source of him turning 100. MoviesandTelevisionFan (talk) 01:38, 6 January 2025 (UTC)

Please add Mike Rinder, co-host of Leah Remini's Scientology and the Aftermath. 2600:1700:2F92:B0:C5FA:87FB:AE02:4358 (talk) 19:13, 5 January 2025 (UTC)
- Not done: it's not clear what changes you want to be made. Please mention the specific changes in a "change X to Y" format and provide a reliable source if appropriate. Citation needed as well (3OpenEyes's talk page. Say hi!) | (PS: Have a good day) 19:18, 5 January 2025 (UTC)
- In actual fact, it was Done. The request was for the subject to be added to the list, and that was completed by another editor. The requestor did not refer to wishing a change to be made to anything. Ref (chew)(do) 23:25, 5 January 2025 (UTC)

- Not done without a source. The current citation states that he died on Saturday. Renewal6 (talk) 00:00, 6 January 2025 (UTC)
