Plot holes
[edit]The episodes can be seen as the equivalent of 'chess problems' and some aspects are thus simplified.
However the last three stories (4 episodes) all have serious plot holes (eg an islet with a house, with no associated boats to reach the mainland and no staff to look after the building).
Noting the issue - a more detailed analysis would belong on the relevant fandom site(s). 82.44.143.26 (talk) 17:53, 4 March 2019 (UTC)
And the 6 February 2020 episode was more hole than plot (someone dies, fully clothed, in a bath with a hairdryer in it, and no note and no reason to kill themselves 'Oh yes, it is suicide' 'and various other problems besides) 82.44.143.26 (talk) 19:01, 10 February 2020 (UTC)
Broadcast in...
[edit]Death in Paradise is broadcast in over 100 countries around the world. In my opinion, it doesn't make sense to mention particular TV stations in particular U.S. counties. To mention BBC and France 2 as the original broadcaster should be sufficient. --Gwadainfo (talk) 22:02, 5 March 2019 (UTC)
WHITE SAVIOR
[edit]This show seems like the clearest possible example of “white savior”......
https://wiki.riteme.site/wiki/White_savior
Why isn’t this mentioned in the article? — Preceding unsigned comment added by Subs99 (talk • contribs) 04:36, 14 July 2020 (UTC)
- Because that's not what the program is. I doubt if white saviours are meant to have their national and personal idiosyncrasies mocked. More importantly, Wikipedia depends on reliable sources for its content. You would need to find an independent source that describes the series that way. HiLo48 (talk) 05:12, 14 July 2020 (UTC)
- Dear Subs99 (talk - of course you are right, and I've tried to point this out above. It's a hopeless task here. A few active people will go to no end to defend, if not white, then at least British supremacy. It's like living a century ago. Media & literature play along, so there seems t be no hope for us to find a weighty-enough source to cite to shed some light on the real issue, as we see it very clearly, in the real world. The show, overall, is a very well produced and more-than-moderately-entertaining embarrassment. Ironically, to white Brits especially. --SergeWoodzing (talk) 11:52, 25 July 2020 (UTC)
- I wish my understanding of French was good enough to be able to tell if this complaint was valid for this version. Others do realise, I hope, that it's joint French-British production. HiLo48 (talk) 04:01, 2 March 2021 (UTC)
- Basically, you could say that someone had called it an example of white saviour syndrome, if you can find and cite a reliable source that calls it white saviour syndrome. Britmax (talk) 15:40, 24 December 2021 (UTC)
- yes 100% agree shocking to me that my local PBS station GBH aka WGBH airs this
thank you for bringing this up, it should be in the main article not just talk — Preceding unsigned comment added by 50.245.17.105 (talk) 16:16, 4 August 2023 (UTC)
Car Registration Number Plate.
[edit]Can anybody please tell to me the reason for the different number plates on the same police vehicle? 110.20.165.215 (talk) 06:29, 31 August 2021 (UTC)
- They are obviously different vehicles although they are meant to be the same. This is simply a continuity error. OrewaTel (talk) 12:52, 31 August 2021 (UTC)
Voodoo
[edit]The Voodoo religion is part of the programme and this is mentioned in the Sainte Marie section of the article. The word Voodoo is linked to the Wikipedia article Voodoo (disambiguation). Normally we do not link to disambiguation pages but in this case the 'Voodoo' in the programme is not fully defined - it's just generic Voodoo. Should we leave it alone, remove the link or change it to African diaspora religions(As Voodoo)? Advice please. OrewaTel (talk) 06:53, 13 November 2021 (UTC)
Quote edited for a better point
[edit]I do not believe that this reversal was constructive. I would just lite to remove the "sir" part of the quote which is rather silly (it is in no way abnormal for these people to use that term in their usual business language regardless of race) and that silliness takes the edge off the excellent critique of the obvious racism in the program. Unless anyone can come up with a good reason to leave the distracting "sir" stuff in, I will be removing it again. --SergeWoodzing (talk) 11:42, 20 March 2022 (UTC)
- Yes, and if you include that in an edit summary to explain your change, both myself and anyone else minded to question your change will have something to work with. Whether they agree that your version of the quote is better in some way is something that will help them decide. Britmax (talk) 12:58, 20 March 2022 (UTC)
- Did you still not see and read my edit summary, though I already replied to your accusation about it on your talk page? Here it is. --SergeWoodzing (talk) 11:11, 21 March 2022 (UTC)
- This is one of those difficult points. SergeWoodzing is absolutely right that in every Police drama the subordinate officers call their chief by a respectful title. In UK drama it is normally 'Guv' but elsewhere it is often 'Sir'. So stating "They call him 'Sir'." undermines the point about racism. BUT that is what the reviewer said. If his article undermined the point that he was trying to make then we don't have the right to rectify it. Correcting the review so that it fits in with our world-view either offends against WP:NPOV or WP:OR. If you want to say that Death in Paradise is racist then you must find a reference that says so. You can't take an article that says, "I think it's racist but I don't understand the dynamics of a Police drama." and edit it. OrewaTel (talk) 20:55, 20 March 2022 (UTC)
- I see your point. Thank you! --SergeWoodzing (talk) 11:11, 21 March 2022 (UTC)
Name of actors
[edit]It is really extremely regrettable that nothing can (yet) be found on Wikipedia about Shyko Amos, Tobi Bakare, Legastelois-Bidé and Shantol Jackson. Molekuelorbital (talk) 13:47, 14 December 2022 (UTC)
- If you believe these actors meet the criteria given at WP:NACTOR, and you can find significant coverage about them in multiple reliable sources, you are welcome to create articles on them yourself. See Help:Your first article.-gadfium 18:55, 14 December 2022 (UTC)
