Question
[edit]In this episode, after the whole "Who touched the thermostat" ordeal, Brian enters between Peter and Meg and says something to the effect of "Whoa something". Does anyone know what he is saying?
- "Ass ahoy"? That's what I hear, and it seems confusing to me, too. According to the subtitle script at Planet Family Guy, Brian's line is "Ass ahoy. Peter, it's 7:00 and you've still got your pants on. What's the occasion?" [1] Cromulent Kwyjibo 21:12, 13 July 2006 (UTC)
- blood? the episode have blood? :c
- Thanks so much! Ive seen the episode 20 times and never could understand what Brian was saying. And the Planet Family Guy [2] site is great!!!--Salvax 05:01, 14 July 2006 (UTC)
Instead of going to a previous episode, it goes to the second episode in the season. I've changed it to nothing, but if anyone knows about anything that came before this, the pilot (mentioned in the artical) or something, then it should say that instead. Nihirist 14:59, 26 November 2006 (UTC)
two minor corrections
[edit]I changed the grammar of the 'eyes' thing under 'Goofs' to try and correct it. I also changed Kennedys into Kennedies, which is how I think it'd be spelled (like strawberries instead of strawberrys). I'm not sure about the last thing so change it back if I was wrong (English is my second language)NJlo 18:40, 23 August 2006 (UTC)
This episode description does not have the numbered population of the episode on airing day, as few of the others do. Can somebody fix that? Also all of seasons 1-3 and the episodes Blind Ambition, Petarded, Jungle Love, PTV, Brian Goes Back To College, The Courtship Of Stewie's Father, The Fat Guy Strangler, The Father, The Son, and the Holy Fonz, Brian Sings And Swings, Patriot Games, I Take Thee Quagmire, Deep Throats, Petergeist have that problem. Court Scene
[edit]Does it really matter if Cleveland and Quagmire were spotted in the court scene? I say, delete that section.
Lots42 23:59, 11 July 2007 (UTC)
- Well, since it was a full scene and not run away gag, I agree, I removed the section. It is worth putting in the plot, as it was first appearance of common characters. TheBlazikenMaster 17:26, 12 July 2007 (UTC)
That tag is right. But it's very hard to decide what is important and what is not, since all of these are cameos. So we need to discuss this. I will think for two weeks what's not important. But I'd really appreciate help. TheBlazikenMaster 16:04, 27 July 2007 (UTC)
There was a reference to the Tank Man in this episode as well. But I'm not that familiar with series to describe it properly. Jan Winnicki * 19:00, 21 August 2007 (UTC)
- That's not helping, we need to know what cultural references are important and which aren't. TheBlazikenMaster 20:03, 21 August 2007 (UTC)
Fair use rationale for Image:FGDeathHasAShadow1.PNG
[edit]Image:FGDeathHasAShadow1.PNG is being used on this article. I notice the image page specifies that the image is being used under fair use but there is no explanation or rationale as to why its use in this Wikipedia article constitutes fair use. In addition to the boilerplate fair use template, you must also write out on the image description page a specific explanation or rationale for why using this image in each article is consistent with fair use.
Please go to the image description page and edit it to include a fair use rationale. Using one of the templates at Wikipedia:Fair use rationale guideline is an easy way to insure that your image is in compliance with Wikipedia policy, but remember that you must complete the template. Do not simply insert a blank template on an image page.
If there is other fair use media, consider checking that you have specified the fair use rationale on the other images used on this page. Note that any fair use images uploaded after 4 May, 2006, and lacking such an explanation will be deleted one week after they have been uploaded, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you.

- So we have to use the oringal plot one then? TheBlazikenMaster 20:59, 1 October 2007 (UTC)
One plot summary, many words, no paragraphs.
[edit]Can someone please fix it? It's diffucult to read without paragraphs? I will look into it myself. TheBlazikenMaster 19:04, 28 October 2007 (UTC)
I don't think so
[edit]Part of this article reads as follows:
Censorship Edits made in syndication: the drunk episodes before the stag party, the ice cream store one is cut out the party where the drunk says your clock won't flush is cut out at Happy Go Lucky scene, the GI Jew references are cut out and go right to Peter sleeping on the job the Michaelangelo broken penis scene with Mr. Weed is cut out
The portion that is bold, I don't know if I'm remembering correctly, but I think that part was in the espiode. I'll watch it toinight to double check. --Chomeara 13:21, 12 November 2007 (UTC)
There are many mistakes in that section. I have seen nearly all of those episodes and most of them still have those sequences. That section is incorrect and should be deleted. Please comment. 69.18.107.48 (talk) 07:17, 16 February 2008 (UTC)

Awadewit comments
[edit]User:Pedro thy master asked me to review this article and offer some suggestions to improve it on its way to FA. There is a lot below - let me know if you have any questions about anything. This article is a very good start and will, with a bit of work, do well at FAC, I think.
- Images
- File:FGDeathHasAShadow1.PNG - This non-free image has an insufficient rationale - "contributes by giving a quick snapshot of the main idea behind the episode". This violates WP:NFCC #8: "Non-free content is used only if its presence would significantly increase readers' understanding of the topic, and its omission would be detrimental to that understanding." Think of it this way: Can the image be described in words? Yes - the caption does just that. To include a non-free image, the image must add something significant - the visual element must be important.
- File:Providence skyline.jpg - This image needs a clearer source link.
- File:Familyguyskyline.gif - This non-free rationale needs to include the specific episode from which the image was taken and the copyright holder.
- File:Griffin family - Family Guy pilot.jpg - This non-free image has an insufficient rationale - "the image is significant because it shows the development of the characters". - How does it do this? Also, if you have a screenshot at the top of the article that shows three of the characters and this image which shows them again, the images will violate WP:NFCC #3a: "Multiple items of non-free content are not used if one item can convey equivalent significant information."
- Images are sandwiching text in the "Production" section - this is discouraged by WP:MOS#Images.
- Prose
The entire article needs to be carefully copyedited by a good copyeditor. Here is an analysis of the first paragraph of the lead:
- "Death Has a Shadow" is the first episode of the animated series Family Guy, originally aired on the Fox network in the United States after Super Bowl XXXIII on January 31, 1999. - It sounds as if Family Guy aired on Fox, but you mean the episode aired.
- The first three sentences all have the word "episode" at the beginning. Try using an "it".
- He then signs on to welfare to keep his wife Lois from finding out - "signs on" doesn't sound right
- Eventually, Lois finds out however, and Peter decides to dump the money from a blimp, at the Super Bowl. - Unnecessary "however" and comma before "at"
- 'He is then arrested, and must await his family's rescue." - Unnecessary "then" and comma
- Organization and comprehensiveness
- Only the first two paragraphs of the "Background" section seemed essential to me. The others seemed more appropriate for the Family Guy article itself.
- Is there more that you can say about the pilot and how this first episode differed from it? Or perhaps you could say more about the making of the pilot and how that led to the making of this episode?
- I would remove the "Cultural references" section - it is a prose list that does not help the reader understand the themes, style, or humor of the show. If you want to see how this kind of thing can be done well look at Weight Gain 4000. Notice the "Cultural references and impact" section explains each reference in terms of the show's development or in terms of its impact on popular culture at large.
- Since airing, the episode has received mostly positive reviews from television critics. - I haven't been able to find any reviews from 1999 - have you? If so, it should be made clearer to the reader that the reviews are from significantly later.
- I didn't find enough information to make a "Themes" section for this episode, which is too bad, but I did find this, which should be included somewhere.
- It had initially speculated that the series would be "pushing the envelope" prior to the airing of "Death Has a Shadow". - This is sourced to a very conservative opinion column - I would delete this as it does not seem to be a widespread opinion or attribute the opinion to the author in the text.
- Sources
- This source, currently ref 4, does not support the information in the article.
- This source, currently ref 6, is not the most reliable source. It is an internal university publication. Those are less reliable than something like the New York Times. Is it possible to find the information sourced to this elsewhere? If not, I'm not sure I would include it.
- What makes this source reliable? I clicked around but couldn't find out much.
- Why is this, currently ref 18, a reliable source? I couldn't find any editorial board.
- Why is this source reliable?

Hi, I am reviewing this article. I have copy edited it for prose problems. However some remain:
- "The movie Peter and his friends is a reference to the 1942 American romantic drama Casablanca." - there must be some words missing.
- Ref 30 is a dead link: http://bobspoetry.com/Bobs02Mr.pdf
- I don't see where ref 23 references the relevant material " Chabert left the series due to time constraints with her acting role in Party of Five, as well as schoolwork."
- What is the full reference: Callaghan, pp. 14-17? The full information should be provided. Callaghan links to Death Has a Shadow but I don't understand why.
I will put the article on hold for seven days. Xtzou (Talk) 16:16, 19 April 2010 (UTC)
