As to the citation need items: As far as I have read (and cited on the Oregon State Capitol article) the decision was over in 1864 (this article says it was considered in the 1880s) and Dayton was never considered. Additionally, the state just built a new capitol building in 1876 so it would be rather unlikely for the state to consider moving the capitol. The reason Salem is tagged is that ultimately would not be true as the decision was made in 1864. So if this bit is true, it needs a citation as well. I'm a second generation Daytonian and we were taught that Dayton was considered for the state capital in social studies in later elementary, early middle school, but I cannot find citations myself. There may be something in the Joel Palmer papers at the U of Oregon, but absolutely right. This should be left out until there is some source indicating legitimacy and accuracy.
