Notability

[edit]

DW is notable as author of Where There is No Doctor which has become the bible of 3rd world health care. That we have as yet been unable to get more details on him speaks loudly for his humility rather than self promotion Cosnahang (talk) 13:07, 30 January 2009 (UTC)[reply]

I removed the references to Hesperians as they continue to post an inflammatory history of David Werner. The allegations referred to below never resulted in any charges being filed against him either in the US or Mexico, let alone any conviction. To continue to post this information is verging on libel, and a media article or two hardly constitute a "good" source. For non-Hesperians reading this post the Hersperians continue to slander David (who was one of the founders), nearly two decades later, over these allegations. Shamefully they have no problem showcasing his book "Where There is No Doctor" and reaping the benefits (including sales and recognition) since they control the original files for printing. It's time the Hersperians stop this "agenda" here at wikipedia. Read the Wikipedia note at the top of this page about libelous content! Just the facts! --David Kebler 06:44, 20 December 2010 (UTC)

To be fair, these allegations were reported at length by The San Jose Mercury, The Dallas Morning News (Jan 8 1995) and The Washington Post (Dec 17 1994). You might also note your connection to Werner's current organization. Kevin (talk) 23:48, 12 January 2011 (UTC)[reply]
I did my best to create a paragraph that simply outlined the facts everyone can agree on - that there were allegations and as a result of those allegations Hesperian asked Werner to leave the organization. I backed them up with a mainstream news source and a link to Werner's own writing. If you'd like to reword the article to make it feel more neutral, I think that's fine, but it's not appropriate to just remove any detail about Hesperian since he was so intimately involved in (ran) the organization for so long, and his departure is of significance to his biography. There is a small discussion of this issue here. Bayradical (talk) 06:05, 17 January 2011 (UTC)[reply]

In response to bayradical I am contacting wikipedia to have them determine if these ultimately unfounded allegations can be restricted from being reposted in David's biography. It's very easy to defame someone with allegations and to do substantial damage to their credibility. Allegations are far removed from charges and even further removed from actual convictions. Bayradical doesn't seem to understand this important point. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 205.172.16.103 (talk) 04:31, 31 January 2011 (UTC)[reply]

By all means contact WP. However, you need to understand that this is an encyclopedia article. It needs to cover the major aspects of a person's life, and it is obvious, by the coverage that these allegations received that this incident is a significant part of his life story (e.g. articles in the Washington Post, the Dallas Morning News, and the Chicago Tribune (five years later))[1][2][3]. WP's biography points out that he denied the allegations, as also reported by reliable sources. What isn't supported by them, incidentally, is your claim that the allegations were found to be "ultimately unfounded". The police report that their investigation was hampered by various factors, and Werner seems to have admitted being sexually involved with underage boys but to have denied that it was abusive, which is not the same thing at all.[4][5][6] Slp1 (talk) 13:07, 31 January 2011 (UTC)[reply]

I removed language I felt was inappropriately promoting and felt like advertising. I also added and cited content on sexual abuse allegations which are important to understanding Werner's full biography as evidenced by media coverage of these allegations. —Preceding unsigned comment added by Bayradical (talkcontribs) 19:16, 14 October 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Re: Where there is no doctor

[edit]

We are from the Philippines and the copy of this book is one of our most prized possession because it has been our doctor since I started my own family. My husband would sneak first to the book before consulting a doctor. And to God be the highest glory , we reached our age of 50 and our children had grown up without being hospitalised often. Thank you Dr. Werner for sharing yourself with us. God bless you.
