Memorials
[edit]There are two memorials to him in Liverpool, both are by the Liverpool Sculptor Stephen Broadbent
One above his and Grace's ashes carved into the wall of the Cathedral. This was * unveiled* (Don't know what the correct word is for a memorial) by Justin Welby and Desmond Tutu. http://sbal.co.uk/what_we_do/projects/sheppard_memorial/
The other is a memorial to both David Sheppard and Derrick Worlock and is on Hope Street. http://sbal.co.uk/what_we_do/projects/sheppard_worlock/ — Preceding unsigned comment added by 87.194.113.146 (talk) 16:36, 11 April 2013 (UTC)
Place of birth
[edit]User:81.178.23.89 repeatedly changed the place of birth of Sheppard from Reigate to Charlwood with comments like "David Sheppard was born in this house, Dormer Cottage, Charlwood. We were visited by his mother Mary Sheppard, some 25 years ago who wanted to see the house again. She gave us photographs of herself and (Sheppard)". But Charlwood does not appear in any of the commonly available references. Tintin (talk) 02:43, 11 November 2006 (UTC)
- I wonder if he was born in Reigate but the house where he lived as a baby was in Charlwood. In any case, it cannot be changed without a citation. A personal anecdote is not sufficient to contradict trusted sources. Stephen Turner (Talk) 10:06, 11 November 2006 (UTC)
- Are these two places close to each other ? Tintin (talk) 11:03, 11 November 2006 (UTC)
- Well, they're only a few miles apart, and Charlwood looks like it's only a tiny village, but there are other towns closer to Charlwood. I wouldn't be surprised if he was born in a hospital in Reigate even if his parents were living in Charlwood at the time, but that's only a guess. Whatever the case, we need a citation to change it. Merging info-boxes
[edit]The C of E and the cricket info-boxes are of different dimensions and don't sit well on the page together. The result looks rather amateurish, to my eye. Any suggestions on how the two might be combined into a single box would be most gratefully received. Tim riley (talk) 15:04, 6 January 2013 (UTC)
- The "not sitting well on the page together" is partly a result of different projects, or other group of editors, not adhering to a common style, but instead designing their own. We should remember that we are working on one encyclopedia, and work collegially to a standard design and layout. In the meantime, I've moved the second box under a relevant subheading, which improves the appearance on mobile devices, and accessibility with assistive software. - Thanks for that. I'm aiming to upgrade this article some time this year, and all tweaks will be gratefully received. Tim riley (talk) 22:47, 12 January 2013 (UTC)
