Contested deletion
[edit]This article should not be speedy deleted as having no substantive content, because I'm still researching it and writing it (deleting being easier than adding) - I have added a stub template (which I have just read in the help about --IDog1993 (talk) 18:38, 9 September 2016 (UTC)
Young Architect of the Year issues
[edit]Hey, i am not sure why this popped up in my notices or watchlist, but i looked at the article, and I immediately question the assertion about London-based David Kohn Architects receiving the "Young Architect of the Year" award in 2009. It happens that I was just recently learning about such an award from the American Institute of Architects for an architect of Polk Stanley Wilcox Architects (AIA), covered here. I added then dropped mention of that in my editing of the new article because this one young architect is just one of many (hundreds?) of architects at the firm, and this award, for them, is relatively minor vs. other higher level awards the firm has achieved.
What is currently stated in this David Kohn Architects article is: "Established in 2007, the practice has won a number of awards including Young Architect of the Year 2009" sourced to ( "Young Architect of the Year 2009: David Kohn Architects". Building Design Online Edition. Retrieved 9 September 2016. ).
For one thing, it is highly doubtful that the award was given to an architecture firm, it probably was given to David Kohn the individual. The reference supporting it is not clear; i just reach a starter page and cannot see the full article.
For another, it needs to be stated who gave this award, which presumably was some British architects institute or an architecture magazine or something, not the AIA.
And IMHO there probably should be an article or two about these type of awards, maybe a combo article covering "Young Architect of the Year" for the AIA and for any other organizations. Or the AIA article should mention its award, and likewise about whatever British organization's article, and this David Kohn Architects article should link to wherever the award is coverd.
By the way I just put this article into WikiProject Biography because i think the article should maybe be about the individual not a firm, and into WikiProject London. Not sure whether those are best or only Wikiprojects relevant. I myself don't put articles about individual architects or firms into WikiProject Architecture because that is about the broad subject, not about every practitioner. --Doncram (talk) 19:33, 28 August 2019 (UTC)
- @Doncram: I have moved this query from David Kohn Architects talkpage as I have blanked and redirected the DKA article, which was cut and pasted from this article. An internet search of the award shows that it was organised by Building Design magazine, so I will add that to the article. There is a partial list of winners, including DKA, in the Building Design article. I will add some wikiprojects shortly. TSventon (talk) 17:08, 30 August 2019 (UTC)
- @Doncram: Hi, thanks for looking at the article and making some valid suggestions for improvement. I can now respond a bit more fully:
- The Young Architect of the Year Award was given to David Kohn Architects, who are named in the url of the reference. According to the Building Design article, the award "recognises and rewards Europe's most promising new architects and practices".
- I have added a wikilink to the Building Design article, which mentions David Kohn Architects as a previous YAYA winner. I have also added a reference and a link to the INSIDE Festival for the other award.
- A disambiguation for Young Architect of the Year could be helpful. Could you produce one?
- I will add the article WikiProject Architecture because the project page has several mentions of articles on individual architects, including a women in red list.
- Do you have any further suggestions for the article? TSventon (talk) 09:08, 31 August 2019 (UTC)
